    Hammer roller loose pin

I noticed today on a Pietta 1860 Colt that the pin that holds the roller on the hammer came loose and the roller dropped off the hammer. I’m thinking a dab of JBWeld in the holes the pin sits in should keep the roller where it belongs. Any better ideas? Well… seems I fixed it by hitting it...

Colt 1860 Vs Remington New Model

I have no troubles running 6 cylinders fully loaded …. No sticking , no cap failures/jams to speak of etc .. I quit using various greases as well as soap when cleaning. I clean with hot water & use Ballistol . Accuracy might drift a bit or I just get tired of loading & shooting but at this...

Colt 1860 Vs Remington New Model

I want to thank all you guys including Charlie , Larry and all the shops stocking all the stuff needed to enjoy the history and present day use of these tools that really changed life. It’s like finding a mechanic that keeps your classic car enjoyable. At first it’s daunting & bit by bit I...

Colt 1860 Vs Remington New Model

I want to use these things but also take care of them as best I can …I have a 20 year old Porsche that I keep covered but I use it … vigorously at times but I haven’t tried to cover every scratch or baby it to the point of not enjoying it . I do park it away from others if I can but I got it to...

Colt 1860 Vs Remington New Model

That’s good .. I have a brass tool for pushing out the wedge on a shotgun that I use but wasn’t sure if I should hit the spring or not …I ask questions and maybe sound stupid but I just don’t need to make all the mistakes .. I like leaving some for others😀

Colt 1860 Vs Remington New Model

Well then I guess that’s the way to do it …. Not being experienced with Colts , I have had an aversion to hitting a new toy with a hammer more than absolutely necessary but I’ll use your advice and just have some fun using it.

Colt 1860 Vs Remington New Model

A bit off topic but what is the favorite way to load a colt 1860 at the range when shooting multiple cylinders ? The best I can figure out is on the gun with a stand designed for this using the gun’s rammer. Since cylinder removal / replacement is so easy on a Remington, loading the cylinder...

Colt 1860 Vs Remington New Model

I like pre-measuring charges in small vials & cylinders worth of wads & balls in test tubes. I use one of the powderinc loading stands and a plastic Polish capper to cap so the Remington ease of cylinder removal makes the whole BP thing simple for me. I like the Remington sight. I like loading...

    3F,2F,1-1/2F charge size

I bumped the load for 2F from 50 grn to 55 for 1-1/2F… seemed great to me …..I would have stuck with 2F but none around when I was looking plus I wanted to try 1-1/2F … 9 shots at 50 yards

    3F,2F,1-1/2F charge size

I did keep my 1-1/2F load the same as my 2F load with decent results and Dixie recommends the same size load for the Sharps using 3F but I tend to fiddle with things a bit so I’m sure I’ll play with the charge sizes a bit. Thanks for the feedback from your experience. I wish I could have just...

    3F,2F,1-1/2F charge size

I guess then it might make sense that I noticed a bit more using 1-1/2F vs 2F ..

    3F,2F,1-1/2F charge size

I did think I had more fouling . When I dropped the block , there seemed to be “debris” on top of the block as if it fell out when I opened up the chamber.

    3F,2F,1-1/2F charge size

I tried Swiss 1.5F in the Sharps carbine at the same charge as I used with 2F. Anecdotally it seemed to have a bigger “boom”. A friend stopped by and said it sounded like a cannon! Accuracy seemed pretty close to 2F. I’d say if I could get Swiss 2F that would be my choice, probably because I’m...

Some information for those interested in buying the 1859 Sharps (Be it from Chiappa or Pedersoli)

I have had good results shooting a Pedersoli Sharps carbine with paper cartridges. I don’t have gas leaks and it’s dead on at 50 yards which is what I mostly do with it . I had to replace the front blade sight and work on dialing it in for 50 & I’ve been working on 100 yards some lately. Old...

    3F,2F,1-1/2F charge size

Seems right … I noticed Dixie recommends 50 grn of FFF…for the sharps carbine … I’ll try 1.5F with the same charge as 2F then I’ll decide on the 3F charge ..
