Low and behold, I found some 3F (3/4#) in my stash, it is regular Goes and the Old Eynsford I've been shooting.

Unfortunately I have 2F, it is the powder my Sharps seems to prefer.

Hopefully get to wring it out in the next couple of weeks! I have .015 and .018 patches, but only .490 balls, if one of the combinations shoots well, I will be happy, if I get mediocre results, I will buy some .495 balls and try them. I am optimistic that I will find the right patch/ball/powder...

Well thanks to Poker, Dad's Hawken now sports a new to me 1:66" twist barrel. I can't wait to test drive it, hopefully this weekend, but we'll see. Now have 4 extra inches of sight radius.

Bill, I can see the Space Museum from my backyard! I will say that I see 10-15 or more elk for every mule deer I see, so many elk that it is impacting the cattle ranchers who have been grazing up there since the 1880s. I love having the hunting opportunities, but hard to draw tags these days...

New Mexico regulations don't address it, just that it must be 45 caliber or larger.

I know there are folks pushing the envelope with the 50 cal 1:48 twist barrels and what appear to be BPCR bullets to give them more range. While I would love to stay traditional with the PRB, I may only have a budget for a new barrel for this rifle. If that is the case then so be it, I will...

I plan on getting a lot more trigger time, will work with the PRB and the Maxi Ball. Getting the moulds some exercise.

I am going to shoot it, see if load development can improve the accuracy, I worry about erasing the lands. If the drop in replacement works out, I will save up and send this one to Mr. Hoyt and have it turned into a 54.
