Woodsrunner Builders - Tools and Supplies?

Thanks much. Please let me know how it works out. Files seem like bringing a gun to a knife fight on a kit like this, except for the sand mold brass, but maybe I'm wrong.

Woodsrunner Builders - Tools and Supplies?

I see them and thank you. You get those out with a file or sandpaper?

Woodsrunner Builders - Tools and Supplies?

Thanks Phil. Did you find the need to draw file the barrel much, and if so, did you follow up with anything less abrasive? I've only done one kit many years ago, an old Lyman that wasn't quality at all, and the barrel seemed pretty smooth to me then.

Woodsrunner Builders - Tools and Supplies?

I'd like to generate a list of tools and supplies previous Woodsrunner builders found useful given the fact that the Woodsrunner is machined to such a high degree of accuracy. In theory, I shouldn't need to buy much. If you're an experienced Woodsrunner builder, can you please check my list for...

    Longrifle sling?

I like that strap and it looks to be something I could make on my own if I'm up for it post Woodsrunner build. Thanks for the tips.

    Longrifle sling?

Thanks for the replies and I may give finger weaving a try. Of course I may get lazy and just tie a piece of parachute cord to the barrel and trigger guard..... we shall see.

    Longrifle sling?

I finally pulled the trigger on a Woodsrunner that I hope gets here soon enough to use at the end of December during the dedicated PA flintlock season. This gun will replace my 45 caliber TC Hawkins rifle and will likely accompany me on a bunch of all day hunts. Because I'll be carrying the...

    Woodsrunner in Extra Fancy Maple

Awesome looking guns! That lighter finish is what I like and will try to reproduce as it really seems to bring out the curl. Damn close to ordering....

    Woodsrunner in Extra Fancy Maple

I agree that the engraving is too much for a utility rifle. I may take a crack at some simple lines on the cheek plate, but nothing too fancy, except the maple of course.

    Woodsrunner in Extra Fancy Maple

I'm getting very close to pulling the trigger on a 54 Woodsrunner Kibler kit in extra fancy maple. I'm leaning towards a stock that's not engraved since this would be a hunting rifle for the dedicated PA flintlock season. Does anyone have HQ pictures of the Woodsrunner in extra fancy maple...

    Southern Mountain Rifle

Just found this, so both are true depending on caliber: Green Mountain Barrel Company Bored Barrels. 32, 36, 40 (all have 1/48 twist) and 45 caliber (1/70 twist) available.

    Southern Mountain Rifle

Thanks Ltdshooter...... hoping 1:48 is true.

    Southern Mountain Rifle

So in agreement with the Greenville Formula I just learned about the barrel is logically configured to shoot 45 caliber round balls, and if it was set up to shoot minies the ideal twist would be 1:33.

    Southern Mountain Rifle

Next question.....I didn't see the twist rate of the Kibler 45 caliber SMR barrel on their site. Anyone know the twist rate and if it's theoretically tight enough to throw minies accurately?

    Southern Mountain Rifle

Fantastic looking guns gentlemen and I'm envious! Balance is important to me and anyone who's hunted from the ground with a flintlock should have known better, and I mean me! I didn't think a 50 would have been so much heavier, but this might make me rethink my requirements. Any of you 45...

    Southern Mountain Rifle

Yes, that's the style I'd like to get for hunting in a 50 or bigger, preferably a kit with extra curly maple stock.

    Southern Mountain Rifle

I've decided to let my father's inherited CVA PA long rifle as is and not attempt to refinish it. It's a walnut stock, wouldn't be what I want to carry in the woods, and I don't want to chance screwing up a piece that was my dad's favorite. Instead I've really taken a liking to the SMR rifles...

whatever happen to all the CVA penn. rifles??

Anyone know the twist of this barrel? My internet research is coming up blanks...

    Hello from PA

Been dabbling in flintlocks since I was a kid and now that I'm 52, the fire had been lit once again. We'll see if I have the time and energy for a refinish of a CVA PA longrifle before fishing season comes back in. Fred
