Got a lathe to play with... built a Cannon!

Yes, those heavy jack wheels would hold this down. Wish we had a place like that here. Wish I could buy scrap metal, brass or lead at scrap prices. Both local places want top $ for scrap. All the scrap metal is sold as possible sculpture, artwork, or antiques piece and it is illegal to take from...

Got a lathe to play with... built a Cannon!

About 3 years ago I finally got a lathe. First project? CANNON! Ran test loads with it mounted to a sled. .50 caliber barrel full of noise! So much fun I never built a carriage for it. I started a nice field carriage and am making the parts slowly. It was not going to be done in time. Drew up...

The Mainspring is slipping off the tumbler! How do I stop it?

Based on the image.... I'm guessing a new tumbler & sear. I do not think I have seen such a deep notch! Edit: I have never seen a CVA lock. Did not realize they had such a deep half-cock position. With that being so, does the sear tip need to be more pointed? The round tip does not appear to...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Well... These are going to different places. These are French double pistol locks, almost 4" long. Right & left. I have the molds but did not cast these. Not all the parts are shown.

    Short rifles & blunderbusses

Possible. Interesting to note that the 2 bottom shorties are brass barreled and have brass lock plates. Might just be made for children who grow out of the "shortie" before the brass plate lock wears out! However, the stock decorations are also quite impressive!

    Pre Flintlock Books

Erhard wolf's 2nd book, Jagd-Feuerwaffen, has many excellent images of rare wheellocks & flintlocks. If I recall correctly there are also some matchlocks. Breech-load "cartridge" wheellock. Breech-load "cartridge" flintlock Self loading flintlock. Turn the crank to reload the waffen...

    Short rifles & blunderbusses

My understanding that many blunderbusses were for use from horseback or carriage. Having the flared muzzle making them easier to load. However, I have seen a few that are straight barreled, not flared. were these "short" rifles a different type of horse waffen? Some of them are rifled so that...

Worked on my matchlock kit finally.

Well... I am curious to see (read: PHOTOS PLEASE!) What a TRS kit looks like. The first and only order I had from them was not much to my liking so even though they sold the parts I felt I could do better making my own. What does the barrel look like inlet? Would the lock fasten through the...

    Ottoman Guns

Well... one could always try to drive it out.... 😃 lots of great scenery! No border checks for EU countries. With the proper paper work you would be in your right. But... since when did that help with unreasonable customs officers. Were packages being detained and searched before leaving the...

    Ottoman Guns

Eating utensils? Not very likely since eating with your right hand (no utensils) was common. Whatever... they are neat! Nicely decorated.
