    Once I get the old load out of this barrel I intend to have it magnifluxed to determine if safe to shoot. The oval flair on the barrel is very psychologically intimidating! This was dated from around early 1700's. William

    Islamic doglock musket

    I think it has to do with releasing and/or holding the dog lock out of the way to release the sear. My lock does not have the spring so it stays released when pulled back. Which by the way takes effort and a tool that fit into the hole would definitely help. However, the hole does not show wear...

    I realize there is not size comparison in the image, and I will not be able to include a photo with my username and date on it... smile. Won't be back there for a bit... let them cure with the maple and cherry slabs. The conchs are laid out on the right side slab when I took the photo.

    Fragile? As in while cutting or when using? Would different groove patterns make a difference? More slots? Less slots? Is it from the pyrite hitting the wheel hard that causes the shatter? Please tell!

    We have those all over the place. Will pick a bunch and dry. I knew they could be used for tinder but have not heard of boiling with potash. Will dry some and try without the potash. Let us know what you find out. More "magic" stones & mushrooms for the Fuererwaffen!
