What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Worked on cleaning up & fitting the frizzen. Also "milling" (small files & graver...) a slot for the cock on the casting for a pistol I am working on. Going to extend the top of the cock as i think it is not tall enough. Lots of clean up to be done after fitting to prepare for engraving.

    Revolving Matchlocks

Cylinder would also need individual pans & covers. Would want to make it at least 7 cylinders. Just to be unique. 7 is a magic number... The pepper box is a percussion affair... I have had a few. Good concept though.

    Revolving Matchlocks

All of these shown and ones I have seen have ramrods... In building one, figuring out the mounting structure needed to support the barrel allowing the cylinder to spin. None of these are auto rotating. They are turned by hand & locked in place.. Then the charged rammed into place. Finally the...

German re-enactment at living museam in Germany

A friend in Germany sent me a link to images from their recent re-enactment event. It was held at a land museum in Eastern Germany very close to the Czech border. Beautiful area. The link for the land museum where it was held is below. A link to images provided by Jochen Schmidt, is also below...

    Revolving Matchlocks

I think the cartridge wheellock or matchlock would be a easier build. Instead of a flintlock, use a matchlock.

    Revolving Matchlocks

I want to build one... and then decorate the bejeezes out of it! As for the wheellock one, ram the charge home and then prime the pan. Would be a bugger to clean. I would assume they are all rotated by hand.

The Rifle Shop - Great response!

And they always get your gold upfront... Wonder how many thousands are on the books for unshipped orders?

The Rifle Shop - Great response!

Yes... I fully understand the workings of their company. BUT, they told me they had the items, they went to check and they were there, in stock, AND they told me they would ship the next Friday. Either they were lost in shipping OR they LIED to me. I do appreciate people stepping up making...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Was hoping to play with wheellock castings but that didn't pan out... So... back to the Jäger. Worked on the intricate center button patchbox cover. Soldered the end cap and the pin plate on and removed the wood on the cover for it to fit again. This is a lot of fun! I am really enjoying...

The Rifle Shop - Great response!

Well... I would not have done the thread if I did not think this was going to turn out great. Bashing a company was NOT my intention. My intention was to show that have improved the situation. The parts, I was told, were in-stock and they would ship out the next Friday, their shipping day. I...

The Rifle Shop - Great response!

Well... update. TRS either ships USPS or UPS. Both services state ground standard shipping is to my area from Oklahoma as 4 or 5 days. My parts have still not arrived. I placed the order with them on the 8th and their ship day is every Friday. The next Friday was the 11th. It is now the 20th...

Forming the powder pan on an original wheellock

A matchlock & wheelie combo would be a great find.

Forming the powder pan on an original wheellock

So... your lock is a matchlock & wheelie combo? If I knew what the envious emoji was I would use it... 😃

    What is this used for?

Now back to our regularly scheduled program... I am curious also. Taking out dings in blades "seems" plausible. However, that can be done other ways.. But why the center bole? The way they are attached to the belt does not allow the to be used very far from the belt. Maybe the slot was also used...
