I glued in a welt for a sheath I'm making for this antler handled knife I forged. This knife will be sewn to the back of a new shooting pouch I'll be making. I'm also finishing up a small palm sized shot pouch for holding shot for my smoothbore. It will probably hold 6 ounces of shot. That is plenty to carry for a morning small game hunt.

Getting ready for bear 🐻 season September 1. 30 yard with my mathews compound. Wanted to blast of the plains pistol I had long ago loaded up with 30 gr 777 fff . It went off with a bang, got minute of can at 25 yards. Real easy clean up. I have always had success with ml stored loaded with 777 for months on end. And the chestnut trees are doing well year twenty seven total. It will be years in the making.

Well good morning from Esher west of London a warm sunny day

My Feldtutzer Swiss 1853. Probably the best designed sniper rifle of its time This one’s private purchase with extras See utube

Just finished adding a higher front sight blade and making the bits for the quadrant , Just need to polish the bits to look antique Everything lines up and I can see the front sight from the peep sight too. The add on front sight will just fall off with a bit of heat just soft soldered on, then back to original

Very happy ha ha. Love from uk

Got started this morning about 9am on a new horn. By 2:00 it was just too hot and so I am taking the kids swimming!
Beautiful "start"! But yeah, keep it fun, you don't want to make a hobby or pass time become another thing to do on the long list of chores. I just finished my first horn. I learned a lot of stuff and I'm looking forward to the next one. Enjoy your swim!
I'm off to babysit twin grandbabies for a week.

You created an exceptionally beautiful knife. Great job!

Last two weeks have been endless wrestling with car repairs. Not done yet but remaining will be routine and not urgent.

So today I went to Ace and purchased a number drill that will be the right size for the music wire that will be used for the barrel pins on a CVA Kentucky. Not using those monsters that come with the kit!

That's it, it's 112* f at the work bench! :(

Running an '05 Subaru and, God bless, so far just expected routine maintenance. If she gets persnicketty, well.....Burn that bridge when I get there.
It is rural here, so even the Ace hardware has stuff you could not find in their stores closer to "civilization".

After SE Asia the Army put me in Camp Roberts, California. A grass desert. There 3 months and it rained once. I was in the shower and missed it. Guys showed me the rain drop pock marks in the dust. Seemed like it was always 100+ degrees but with no humidity it was nice. Especially compared to where we were before.

Was hoping to play with wheellock castings but that didn't pan out...
So... back to the Jäger. Worked on the intricate center button patchbox cover. Soldered the end cap and the pin plate on and removed the wood on the cover for it to fit again. This is a lot of fun!
I am really enjoying working on this.
Need to fit the end cap so that it slides in all the way. The brass is pinned on so there are no visible fasteners.
Thanks for looking.
William

I was at the range shooting my hand built 45 Tennessee rifle and about 15 or so shots in, the frizzen spring broke on the L&R lock, I placed an order for a replacement, hope to have it before the end of the week. BTW I had to ignite the charge with a rolled-up piece of paper with the end of it burning.

Did some cleaning out in the nether regions of my shed and found a gun barrel that I’d completely forgotten about.
Seems I made it out of probably best quality seamless drawn tube, with a reenforcing tube over the breech and forward.
Would have done it sometime around 1996 at Cockatoo Dockyard as that’s the only place where I had access to a big enough lathe, the centering plug is still in the muzzle.
Breech plug is fitted, wedding bands roughed out, flat filed and the barrel slightly swamped,
I doesn’t have a touch hole so isn’t legally a gun barrel; probably 12 gauge but maybe 10 g. I don’t want to disturb the centre plug as itl’s a tight fit.

Length : 45”
Length of reinforce: 15”
Diameter along reinforce: 1.175”
Diameter in swamp: 0.995” and 1.090” at muzzle.

Having rediscovered it, I’d better do something with it😀
