    Help me to decide?

The Gun Works in Springfield Oregon bought the last of the Lyman guns. They may have a GPR. They don't have them listed on their website. Best to give them a call @ (541) 741-4118 Good Luck, Walt P.S.: With the shipping problems I had last year, I'd go pick the Gemmer up!

I might be new to this stuff

Back then, even reading a book wasn't a guarantee of success. Well, eventually....... The first time I took my T/C Hawken out to shoot it, the balls were really hard to start. I was using a liquid lube. It was so bad that the palm of my hand was red from the Short Starter. With each...

    New to black powder shooting

Welcome from the Oregon Territory! Many years of knowledge and experience are among our Ranks. I’m not sure what’s available around you. You may be forced to order Online. I started down this path over 30 years ago. I bought my first rifle used for $150. I then had to go to the Muzzleloader...

    Help me to decide?

I don't know that I'd feel comfortable hunting for deer with my 40. A 50 cal conical should do the job on Elk. The last deer I shot was with a 385-grain Great Plains bullet and 90 grains of Goex. It was complete overkill! Yep, a ball for deer and a conical for Elk should do just fine. Walt

    Help me to decide?

They actually lowered the minimum caliber for deer to 40 (or #1 Buckshot) a couple of years back. Elk is still 50 or better. Good Luck! Walt

    Ok you 40 caliber shooters.

Mine is a Chambers 40 caliber Issac Haines Rifle. I couldn't find anything but .395 Round Balls and molds so that's what I shoot. Patching is .015 to .018 Pillow Ticking Lubed with Bumbling Bear Grease from October Country. I usually shoot 40 grains for Target work. Surprisingly, an...

One of my barrels is .939. According to the chart, it's 15/16". Eyeballing it with a ruler was 13/16". I have no idea what formula to use otherwise. Unless it was about interest rates, dollars, and cents, math was not my favorite subject. Walt

    Washing Patch Material

Does anyone know why they recommend washing the sizing out of fabric before using it for Patch Material? I’ve bought some Pillow Ticking Patches from Thompson Center Lubed with Bore Butter. They’re very stiff. I suspect the fabric wasn’t washed first. When you place one on the Muzzle and press...
