Dave is right, when I built my first muzzleloader cell phones were unheard of. No one knew what an internet was. I hauled hay @.07 a bale for $ for caps and powder.
I leaned by hard knocks and common sense. I wish this had been around in '80.

No worries. Back before there was the internet, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, we had to learn by finding a shooting club where somebody could explain it, or get hold of a book that had it written down in a way that we could understand. So this place is sorta a really huge muzzleloader club, with plenty of experience. The best part is the folks can help you avoid spending coin on junk that you don't need.

Back then, even reading a book wasn't a guarantee of success. Well, eventually.......

The first time I took my T/C Hawken out to shoot it, the balls were really hard to start. I was using a liquid lube. It was so bad that the palm of my hand was red from the Short Starter. With each successive loading, it became easier. Finally, the lightbulb went on. I told myself, "naw, it couldn't be". I looked on the back of the Lube bottle and there in big bold letters was "Shake Well Before Using!".

I finally joined a club and things got better. I got tired of the blind leading the blind with me filling both roles.

Once upon a time I thought I had a pretty good handle on the subject of muzzle-loading guns. Then I discovered this forum. I still don't know exactly how much I DON'T know, but I do know that there is quite a bit to learn that I have only scratched the surface of. Quite certain I will never learn everything there is to know about them and, if I may quote Ambassador G'Kar: "...I am both terrified and reassured to know that there are still wonders in the universe, that we have not yet explained everything."
