    Ramrod inlet

Have had some issues with moisture collecting in the inlet of the ramrod channel. It started off with some spilled water during cleaning on a couple occasions, but after a misty hunt this last Saturday, it’s done the same. It ends up swelling to the point where I can’t get the ramrod seated all...

    My Kibler Colonial

I’ve been blessed to live in a good state for big bucks and have a few farmers who give me permission for helping them out every once in awhile. I’ve been super patient allowing genetics to play their role, passing lots of young deer over the last few years. It doesn’t always work out as you...

    My Kibler Colonial

I have a rifled one as well. Swapping barrels didn’t occur to me to until after I had put together my bird gun, but I can’t say I’d go back either way. A shorter gun would be nice, but man… these things are so balanced. They do weigh on you in at 12,000’ chasing mountain critters though 😂

    My Kibler Colonial

gets another groove filed into the trigger guard after today. It’s been a ROUGH season. I’m not sure I’ve been put through the wringer as much as I have been this year in what ended up being a very long season. Hunting pressure ramped up this year on the surrounding properties. A neighbor...

    Honest opinions on Kibler rifles

103 yards in a light rain/heavy mist this morning. I’ve been around flintlocks my whole life and have yet to see a faster lock

What is your choice of shot container for the field?

I make pre-measured cartridges from brown paper sacks. Both ends are tied off with string. A quick tear/slice of the knife is all I need to pour it down the chute. For powder, I’ve almost exclusively switched to carrying prescription medication bottles, along with my powder measure. Really...

    My new to me BlunderBeast

There was a period in time where we put everything in a crockpot with cream of mushroom soup. My latter years, I really enjoy fried rabbit quarters with mashed potatoes and gravy

I get a notion in my head once a year to buy/make one just for turkey hunting. Carrying a 10# smoothbore through the turkey woods can wear on the shoulders and arms. Then again, it’s been deadly out to 37 yards… don’t fix what ain’t broken. Regardless, I’ll start thinking about it, again.

    Priming powder for flintlock

I’ve used nothing but 3F for loading and priming. Zero complaints

    Bear leather

Pretty light, 200 live weight would be my guess. Sounds like most of the bears were skinny this year.

15 days until Kansas Whitetail ML season!

This week looks very promising! Highs in the 60’s and 70’s!

    High altitude hunting

Circling back to this. Dad ended up being successful! His first mule deer and black bear. We ended up filling 2 of our 3 tags!

This was dad’s first black powder rifle. He purchased it 35+ years ago after he got into rendezvous and joined a gun club. He would end up getting a flintlock a few years later and moved this gun to the closet. Something I pointed out to him on our way back from this trip was this gun has now...

He’s never done a trip to Colorado like this. Told him he either had some tremendous beginners luck or a helluva guide 🙂

Maybe I’m not following on the long brown thing? He was pretty pumped. We try to hunt the Kansas firearms opener every year as a family. We haven’t done a trip like this together, though. Spent quite a bit of time researching. Trip was for him whether he likes to admit it or not. He’s already...

Here are some additional photos of the trip. We spent 6 days in the backcountry living out of our backpacks. Truly a great father-son trip! Was his first mule deer and bear.

I took my dad on a bear/mule deer hunt in Colorado this past week. After a few days he filled both of his tags! I was very happy with my bear tag soup with his success. While I was waiting on my ghost of a bear to appear, I captured some good photos of my Kibler .58
