    Turkey hunting regulations

If the bird population is low, or trying to rebound, a great many more birds can be killed with a single roundball than would be with legal shot size. Making it harder to kill them gives them a fighting chance to bounce their numbers back where they are thin. The fatbird population around my...

Shooting Wooden Bullets? Are they effective?

Those temples are the Achilles heel. Yeah, they use bean bag rounds now.

    Fire Concerns

Same here. I kept an eye on it while I reloaded. Stopped to pick it up on my way to the target. By that time, the patch had turned to ash. No mink oil patches for me when hunting the prairie!

    Fire Concerns

In my experiences, the only time I have encountered smoldering patches is when using mink oil as lube. I have never had that with a spit patch. Of course, YMMV.

    SOLD Small single set trigger

That is one cool trigger. Is it antique or modern? Appears to be of the set-to-cock design. Regardless of the era, I'll take it!

What is your choice of shot container for the field?

I have a couple of Leroy’s double pouches. He sure does good work. On one, both sides have wooden stoppers. The other, which is my go-to pouch, is a wooden stopper on the lead side and brass spout on the powder side. Plenty of capacity for a days hunt. Freed up a lot of space.

What is your choice of shot container for the field?

Original shot snakes/flasks come up on ebay all the time. I just purchased this one, advertised as "leather is soft with slight damage", complete with powder and shot measures. Usually these have been lost. Even if it cannot be repaired, it is complete. Will make a perfect pattern for the...

    Caddyshack III: Judgement Day

I love how the beagle against the fence 'disappears' during the explosion. Little dog could MOVE!

    Rust protection.

😂😂 you know I try to be silly and sometimes it backfires. Funny you say that. After I posted that, I thought to myself, you know, if one wished to store a muzzleloader indefinitely, that would be the way to do it. Plug the nipple and fill it to the brim with whatever @Britsmoothy is using...

need help with 58 minie bullet mold

Speaking from the limited experience I have with my rifle, -.002” loads MUCH easier after a string of 10 shots than even -.001”. My rifle would balk like a mule at an interference fit. It’s neat that muzzle fed loads are just as customizeable as cartridge loads. Edit—come to think of it, I quit...

need help with 58 minie bullet mold

You might have to add a sizing die to your kit as well. Bore diameter of my original Springfield 1863 is .583". One of my molds (RCBS Hogdon) drops a bullet that measures .581". That is the size I need, so I can load those as cast. Another mold (Rapine) drops them at .585". I run these through a...

    Larger Flash Hole

Your Investarm rifle has a chambered breech. If it's not getting it CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN after your shooting sessions, it could very well always give you trouble. Do you remove the barrel, submerge the breech in water and do the ol pump n scrub to clean? Are you swabbing between shots? Crudus...

need help with 58 minie bullet mold

Before buying anything, pin gauge your bore. Before buying anything, pin gauge your bore. Before buying anything, pin gauge your bore. This has been my TED talk. 😁

    Still reading print media?

As a kid, I could not wait for the next issue of Hot Rod. I always had 3 of 4 different ones in my bag at school. Once the LS came out, everything became snap together, plug and play. LS engines are the black plastic guns of the hot rod scene. Also, my dad was a member of the Confederate Air...

    Crockett nipple wrench

Can NOT confirm as to a Crocket. I have used it on antique guns with a very tight bolster. I modified the small ‘pistol’ socket slightly and without trouble to fit on a larger nipple. The small socket will fit into any space you can get the nipple in to.

    Rust protection.

After a good and thorough cleaning, I fill all of my bores with molten beeswax to the muzzle. No air, no rust, right? A solid blast from the air nozzle to the fire hole pushes it all out like a missile. You gotta have a fast twist, though, if you want to stabilize it.
