    repair broken hammer

I hope you can find someone on the continent. It would be much easier, for sure. If you cannot find anyone, does international law permit small parts to be shipped overseas for repair? Can you send just the hammer?

    repair broken hammer

Tony South of Micro Precision Welding Mattawan, MI My go-to for high quality low invasive repairs. He has repaired a pile of lock parts and hammers for me with zero complaints. He uses a laser, so there is no altering of heat treated parts.

Coning done to Parker Hale Volunteer Rifle

Joe does not recommend coning the muzzle of any rifle that will be shooting a conical bullet.

    Lyman Rifle Flint Material?

I have never used agate, just English black and French amber flints. They spark so good I haven’t ever wanted to change.

Can I switch to left handed shooting?

Lefty here.... been shooting RH guns for a long time. Cap splatter and no cheek rest are the only things different to expect. If your gun has a bolster on the breech for the nipple, it might not even splatter. The only guns that have really burnt me good are ones with powder drums instead of...

    Odd powder drum threads

20 pitch SAE threads come out to 1.27mm in metric. I would run a M10x1.25 tap through it, install the corresponding new drum and rock on.

How varied was the craftsmanship on original Kentucky rifles?

Take a look through the listings of antique originals on Gunbroker, and on Gunsinternational. You will see every type of variation there is, especially during the mid-late percussion era. Gotta remember: in the past, Blacksmith, Gunsmith, Mechanic, etc., were often all the same man. We got the...

Where to find real 32 Caliber soft lead Ball for the tiny BP Revolvers

The pietta 1863 pocket I had pin gauged .316 in the chambers and .301 in the bore. I never shot it, didn't feel good in the hand, but was going to use .319 ball....Lee makes a .319 mould that would have worked well.... But since a mold doesn't sound like something you want to do, give track of...

    German silver/nickel brass wood screws

These three small wood screws are all that hold the trigger guard on. The front of the guard is made like a hooked breech. The thru-the-wrist tang screw is accessed when the trigger guard is removed. @LRB can you tell anything about the era of the screw?

    German silver/nickel brass wood screws

This is for a mid 1800’s Nicanor Kendall underhammer rifle. I have the original screw, but half of the head is broken off. I removed the broken screw, and upon further inspection, it is for sure an unclad alloy. I say ‘original’ screw….who knows what has been changed over the years… If the...

    German silver/nickel brass wood screws

Thank you! After some searching, I can find plenty of nickel plated brass screws, but no alloy screws. I’m just going to settle for brass. The rest of the screws are brass anyway. This one is German silver to match the trigger guard. It’s just a cosmetic screw really, not providing any...
