    Its Time For A Change

I thought about a .54 however the .40 and .50 barrels are the same size and I have two other .54's. In addition, I shoot 100 grains of Swiss in the .50 and with that butt contour it is quite an attention getter. A .54 in that design might be pushing the boundaries of pleasant shooting.

    Its Time For A Change

With Big Game Season approaching in a few weeks its time to change the barrel on my Tennessee. By pulling the lock bolt, tang screw and barrel keys. It is transformed from a Fun Forty to a Ferocious Fifty in just a few minutes. Next Spring, with the onset of Turkey Season, it will...

Which is historically correct, precut patches or cut at muzzle?

This is something I have wondered about. You know how particular we are about our patch material. I have had some strange looks cast my way while perusing the bolts at Joann's with micrometer in hand. I have thought about the availability, quality and consistency of 18th century fabrics and the...

    Longrifle sling?

I planned to put a sling on this full stock Hawken build due to its hefty weight. The screw on the forward swivel passes through a lug dovetailed into the barrel. and the swivel lays on the ramrod guide so as to not block the rod channel. Initially I put this woven fabric sling on it but changed...

    How do you hold?

I'm with Hatchet Jack. All my sights are flat on top. If I am shooting long range I elevate the front blade. At 200 yards the base of the front sight rests on top of the rear with the blade centered in the notch.

    Origins of chili con carne

Many years ago there was a family from Texas living nearby. The mom want to to know where she could buy some "chili meat". Now to us ignorant Northerners, chili con carni always included ground beef. We were puzzled why the lady was having trouble finding ground beef. Turns out the chili she was...

    3F in a .54?

I read something similar years ago, maybe Sam Fadala article, advising to shoot over snow. Personally I judge based on accuracy, POI and a chronograph.

    3F in a .54?

My .54 Isaac Haines likes 100 grains of Swiss 3F. Shoots very flat out to 100 yards and if I hold up enough front sight I can hit the gong at 200.

    Pondering a flintlock. Educate me.

I wanted a .40 and pondered long and hard to justify it. I finally made a Tennessee with interchangeable barrels in .40 and .50. one for plinking and one for hunting. The .40 is a delight.
