The Colt Open Top Hammer Sight

This is exactly what I did. After making my own replacement front sight from a Nickle coin.

    Patch question

I agree. I'd start by polishing the counter sink at the muzzle. If sharp the patch fibers get cut at loading.

    How heavy is too heavy?

If after a day of trail hunting you wish you had brought along your grandson to carry the damned thing...it might be too heavy. I have a full stock Hawken in that category.

Buff, the peep is adjustable for windage by turning the hinge screw. No need to bend anything.

To Bounce or not to Bounce

I suggest the underlying issue is consistent load compression. As with C+B revolvers variation in ram force can result in varying POI. Having said that, Granddad did recommend throwing the rod down when loading a shotgun. He said he could tell by the sound when properly compressed. Tunk, tunk...

    Barely any sparks

Looks like the frizzen is very soft based on the severe gouging.

Whats some things you wish you knew about/had early on when you started shooting these?

Keeps the gunk from running down into the ignition area. This has been most helpful on a caplock Hawken where I often had a crud blockage under the nipple.

Whats some things you wish you knew about/had early on when you started shooting these?

Storing muzzle down after cleaning has been a very helpful bit of knowledge.

What happened to TOW’s gun kits!?

I have used Pecatonica for the last several builds. Absolutely delighted with their stocks.

Bow and arrow verses Flint Guns

A lot of truth there. Add in trickery, deceit, disease and false promises.
