    Parts and instruction.

On the original CVA barrels the threads on the breech plug were over 3/4" long and the drum was installed into the breech plug with a flash channel drilled though the breech plug to the bore. You probably don't have that option. The drum needs to be installed in front of the breech plug and also...

CVA Kentucky Rifle - No Barrel Pin

I have an adjustable fence set up on my drill press. If you have the sights installed you would need to remove them. I use the barrel against the fence to locate where the hole will be just slightly below the bottom of the barrel then lock the fence in place. Place the barrel on the stock and...

    Breech plug install

You actually need to do the exact opposite. You need to put an anti seize grease on the threads. There is more to properly installing a breech plug then just screwing it into the barrel. You need to have the face of the breech plug mate up with the end of the bore sealing it at the same time...

CVA Kentucky Rifle - No Barrel Pin

Yes it was intended to have holes drilled through the lugs. A 1/16" pin is all you need the wood doesn't support the barrel. Actually it is just the opposite, the barrel supports the wood. You need to be careful in locating the bottom of the barrel to drill the holes for the pins. A drill press...

    Parts and instruction.

Looks to be a CVA Kentucky pistol. I am currently working on resurrecting one. You are missing a whole lot of parts there. The percussion kits came with the drum already installed through the barrel into the breech plug already installed on the barrel. The flintlocks came with the breech plug...

My Trade Rifle is finally done.

For some reason which I don't understand I have wanted a J Henry Lancaster pattern Trade Rifle for as long as I can remember. Well finally finished it so I can cross that one off my bucket list. It was totally put together from parts that have been sitting around my workshop that I could modify...

    Traditions, Kentucky rifle

I have one of those locks on an old pistol kit. May have an extra of that tumbler screw and spring would have to look tomorrow. They used a couple different trigger set ups and their is one that I can modify just the trigger to get a 2 to 3 pound trigger pull from the stock trigger with no...

    Traditions, Kentucky rifle

If you are having problems with a heavy trigger pull I may have a way to help but I need to see a picture of the trigger assembly to see if it will work. I took an old CVA colonial from an impossible trigger pull to about a 3 pound pull using the stock trigger.

    Traditions, Kentucky rifle

If I remember correctly,(that doesn't happen all the time) The tumbler on that lock does not have a fly. That can create some problems with set trigger.

What size Dutch oven or potjie to be the only cast iron in a solo camp?

I have read where the Continental army issued a tin pot for every 10 soldiers. When they couldn't get tin they would issue a cast iron pot. The cast iron pots seemed to just disappear. To be realistic a one person camp would be a bare minimum of everything.

Flint gets stuck on hammer face.

There was a post on a page I follow from Barbie. She said most of the locks they get returned simply need a little grease and oil then they work fine. From my own experience any gun that someone brings me to work on it doesn't look like it has seen any oil from the first day it was made.

54 Cal buffalo hunt accuracy issues

Your not going target shooting where you need 5 shots for score your going hunting. Where does your first shot from a clean bore go? Does that first shot from a clean bore consistently have the same point of impact? When you are hunting it is that first shot from a clean bore that is the one...

Finally the Trade Rifle is ready to finish

I have been looking for that site for a couple years but could never find it. info from others on how to find it always came back site not found. Has some interesting info on different subjects. It doesn't seem to have the extensive info on doing the stripes that people have told me was there...

Finally the Trade Rifle is ready to finish

I know that the Trade Gun builders made Fancier ones that are called Chief's grade so I think that is probably what that one is, Just one a little nicer than the regular rifle. I thought about engraving some beauty lines around the patch box but I only have about 60% use of my right hand now so...

    What's wrong with my layout?

Probably not describing this properly but going to try. In your diagram you show a straight line across the pan from the front to in back of the pan. The top of the lock at the rear of the pan should be higher than the line of the pan. If you get that area up where it should be that will move...

Finally the Trade Rifle is ready to finish

That site has been gone for awhile. I have seen a couple of original Leman's. There does seem to be a pattern on them so I think that is probably how Leman did it. What did you use for the stripes? Your rifle does look nice.

Pretty sure they didn't have propane torches 200 years ago.

Finally the Trade Rifle is ready to finish

I am pretty sure that the lock is probably an old DGW lock. It is a little smaller than an actual Henry lock. It has a roller on the frizzen spring and I could modify it to look like a Henry. Chambers does have a lock that is close to the correct size and could be modified to look right. I am...
