    Rifling questions

Lots of different ways rifling was done. The grooves on your barrel were filed out to the crown. This was commonly done. Some folks call it coning, but it's not. Load your rifle with a thinner patch 0.010 and see how it work: it should shoot just fine

    Halfstock swamped

Rifles were often built with parts from wrecked or worn out guns. I have seen a good number of half stocks built with swamped barrels that were salvaged from a wreck. I own two such rifles. The rib is simply soldered to the bottom flat of the barrel.

    Any bead collectors here?

The majority of beads that come from Africa were made elsewhere. Glass and metal beads were made in Asia and Europe and traded into Africa for over 1,000 years. Beads were a commodity sold and traded all over the world anywhere they could be sold, including North and South America. When you pick...

    For the Thompson Center Folks.

The vast majority of hunters today in the US purchase and shoot muzzleloaders to take advantage of additional hunting an additional hunting season or two. They have no interest whatsoever in the traditional aspect of muzzleloading, and never will. Modern projectiles, 209 primers and pelletized...

Beautiful rifle. Ian is a workman of the highest order who generously gives back to the muzzleloading community. Now go shoot that rifle!

    Colonial .54 touch hole

The touch hole as it comes drilled from Mr. Kibler works great. I don't see a need to enlarge it.

Starting to look for a flintlock

The Log Cabin Shop in Lodi OH always has used custom rifles (along with many others) for sale.

Oh, Come On With the Inflated Caps!!

I don't know if you will ever find caps at Wal Mart again. Inline hunters don't use them. Stores in my area have zero muzzleloading supplies of any type, having removed them months ago.

Why is this John Manton frizzen/pan designed with this V?

Indeed rainproof, and likely the best flintlock ever made.

Who among us are PIPE smokers?

There is a big pipe show in Columbus OH August 9th and 10th. One of the best shows in the US.

    Any bead collectors here?

That bead may be new but it was still hand made by a worker, one at a time over a flame, as they were in the old days.

    FRIENDSHIP IN PERCUSSION CAPS

Hello, Has anyone been to the matches at Friendship during the past week? Were any percussion caps available, and if so how much? Thanks!

Who among us are PIPE smokers?

Put the pipe in a plastic bag and leave it in the freezer overnight. The stem should remove easily.

    Any bead collectors here?

I have collected and studied beads for many years. It's a fascinating field of interest. Much of what was known about beads and those who used them has changed over the past 25 years. FWIW Lewis and Clark beads were from Venice and made about 50 years later than the famous expedition. Still...

Who among us are PIPE smokers?

I've enjoyed smoking a pipe for many years. Have a good sized collection of them and lots of tobacco. At a muzzleloading club I shoot at in Ohio there a number of folks who partake in the joys of a fine pipe and tobacco after the match: it's pretty cool.
