    Tiny priming flasks??

That's exactly what it is: to load for a pistol

    Tiny priming flasks??

I use one for flintlock priming powder.

    Tiny priming flasks??

One of the reasons those flasks are so cool!

    Tiny priming flasks??

On your Sykes flask (either or original or replica) the top unscrews for easy filling.

T-shirt Patching NOT a good Idea

Tried t shirt patches when I first started muzzleloading, and quickly learned they were the worst patching you could use.

Looks Scottish, nice old pistol, pretty certain it was born a caplock.

    Well put, and correct.

How do you like your horns?

Am I gonna say it? Yeah, I'll say it: the proper term for scratching on a horn is engraving, not scrimshaw. There, I said it....

Barrels that are not 12L14 steel

Original barrels were made of wrought iron and steel. Lead was not added to them for better machinability and finishing. Old barrels made of old steel and iron are not as strong as those made of modern gun barrel steel but they were still pretty resistant to fracturing.

    Paper Patch Bullets

I have Chase patched for cartridge rifles a number of times, but have used the technique on a muzzleloader only once. The rifle is a .54 caliber picket rifle made by shop of William Billinghurst. It was their shop rifle, which means it was used for trying out all sorts of things. Owned by a...

What is the deal with the fouling ring

A super smooth bore is not necessarily best for accurate shooting. If accuracy is good, leave the bore alone, and concentrate your efforts on how you clean, and how often you do it. A cleaning patch/jag combination that fits too tightly will push fouling down the bore rather than pull it out...

    12L14 Steel good enough?

I don't expect Douglas would ever state they made a barrel where the material used could be less than optimal. Lawyers have a way of advising companies to frame their responses to some inquiries in a certain fashion. Cold weather was suspected in a few of the failures and I remember hearing of...

    12L14 Steel good enough?

It is true; it's why they stopped production years ago. I remember it.

Can powder brand be responsible for this much difference?

It sure can, especially Magnum (hot) caps.

Can powder brand be responsible for this much difference?

Is it a percussion rifle and did you change caps? The powder can certainly make a difference, but at 100 yards with open sights so can the light, and of course the wind. Several variables to consider.

    RWS 1075 Percussion Caps

The plus caps are too hot and cause vertical stringing in my target rifles. Years ago when I shot on the US Int'l Team we were given a quantity of powder, patches and caps for free. On one occasion all that was there were the 1075 Plus caps. No one took them, so I guess I wasn't the only one.
