    Hy-Hunter Buccaneer questions

I purchased one of these new in 1964 for about $35.00. I was 14 then and shot blanks with it in the back yard. LOL. Had to send the frizzen to DGW to get it hardened. Fired that gun till the sear spring broke. A Question: I'm trying to remember.....does the mainspring look like other...

    SOLD Centermark French Fusil

Still no bites ?? Lets go with $1,150.00 - shipped to the lower 48-states. I would think that the price of a similar "kit" would cost this much today. Rick

    Ottoman Guns

LOL. By now, the "Ottoman Guns" Thread is book length. It's sure been a fun ride, and still going. Personally, I've learned much information. Also, it has been a great pleasure to welcome members from - or very familiar with - these Eastern regions adding great content. Rick

    Baltic Snaphaunce

That appears to be the case. I've seen photos of some of these locks where some have the pan cover (a carry-over from the matchlock period) and others that don't have the cover. Apparently, the combination of the pan cover and the frizzen (battery) in the forward position acted as a safety...

    Moroccan moukhala reproduction - legit?

Hi CS As mentioned above, the replicas you have been looking at are strictly wall hangers for decoration. And, as mentioned, the barrels are likely also made of wood. Here is a custom made replica that is available now. Although it does not copy a Moroccan gun (the powder horn does) it does...

Closer to the OP's lock: Here's the outside of the lock. Let me try and find the inside. Rick

    Baltic Snaphaunce

Here is one style of early Swedish snaplock. I'll post a couple others, one being close to the original OP's gun. Rick

    Ottoman Guns

Palaska: I notice in the photo that Avto just posted that the small metal box is square shaped. I believe the square shaped boxes were used to house a small copy of the Koran. What we typically refer to the Palaski, for carrying pre-made cartridges are shaped like the two in Cyten's #766...

    Ottoman Guns

Avto: Thanks so much for the photo and definitions/explanations. Very comprehensive. Of course, I'll never remember all of them, so I printed your information to keep in my library. Again, thank you. Rick

    ID Help Please

Some of these earlier Spanish guns and kits I remember as far back as the mid-1960's in DGW's catalog. A friend of mine had one of these Spanish made ones. This was about 1965. It was a half-stock smooth bore about 28-gauge. It had a brass, unpolished cap box in the butt stock. The spring...

    Track of the Wolf

An acquaintance of mine works for UPS. He mentioned that their current "system" when originally developed was geared more towards business to business shipping. That's why they charge a small fee to pick up at a residence. I believe FEDEX is similar (?) They seem to hand off the smaller...

    SOLD Centermark French Fusil

Thanks Sooty. Yes, they balance very nice. Not muzzle heavy. The original stain covered up much of the figure in the wood. The Aquafortis really brought it out.
