    Naming your guns?

Shamefully, I named my three bander after my wife, because I liked the shape of its butt. The bride of 44 years smiles though, as I say, "Come on hon, we're off to the range." Pete

WANTED Want Shaver apertures for 17a

Over the years, I have garnered quite a selection. Send me a PM on what you are after. I have mainly the round jobbies of various sizes, some fine posts (too fine for me). Also, I cut down some of the course cross hairs, leaving just a single remaining post, very sharp for my ageing eyes...

    Using a smaller Minie ball.

Like this (yep, a little oxidation on the minies - very tropical here, cast two years ago). As cast, two wraps of onion paper, resize for my Parker Hale Enfields. Now, if the weather holds out, I'll add to this next Monday evening 🤞. And of course, if your rifle is a true .58, skip the resizing...

    Using a smaller Minie ball.

2 wraps of onion skin paper around a .575 worked well for me in experimentation, @lyman54. With great success, I have used wrapped minies in my PH 53 and 58. Believe it or not, a small amount of lube on the paper just before firing, they slide down beautifully - accurate too. If you can hold out...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Did you ever have a training session run by a Physical Training Instructor using your combat rifle? Back in the day, when our issued arm was the 7.62 Nato L1A1 Self Loading Rifle, our torturers had a whole regime of exercise positions to test our mettle. It's amazing how heavy a 9.5-pound rifle...

Man, a lot of folk are going to look at that and decry it for being so plain. But fella, you got me salivating! Good protein, a bit of salt and pepper, and that beautiful brown biscuit. I'm not even going to ask - I know it tasted soooooooooo good! Jealous, Pete

Ah. This guy here in Australia has some good ideas and products. All beautifully made, marine grade - may give you some inspiration for an external fitting? If the link doesn't work, just google jacktarslocker. 👍 https://jacktarslocker.com.au/ Cheers, Pete

Nice box! Waxed rope handles ought to do? Drill two holes on each end of the box, just the diameter of the chosen rope. Place the knot on the inside for neatness. Two handles should do it. Having the handles on the side takes pressure off the lid. Sort of like this: Cheers, Pete

    Peep sight

Hi @zerosprk! I made this one. It's easy to do with minimal tools. I used a piece of bar stock that I trimmed down to an L shape with a file. I drilled a hole in one end for mounting, and used a store-bought bolt for fixing - this screw replaces the one that goes down through the rifle...

    Peep sight

Nice! I like what you have done there, @cgoff. Now, the next thing to do is tap the centre hole for an adjustable iris. I do like a peep sight for my ageing eyes. Here's one I put on my Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken. Pete

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

A fun day at the local Townsville range today. I got started after the Range Officer cowboyed some cattle off the 1000 metre line and moved them off into the bush- see the pic below, blue Nissan utility (pick up) way out on the left in top of the image. I had a fistful of minies lying around in...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Kind off. Sort of. But not now, really! 😃 Our club started shooting muzzleloader comps back in the early eighties - there was a much bigger following back then, the comps taken far more seriously. The Townsville club rep was the State rep for a few decades, assisting with the National comps too...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Hi lads and ladies! A wonderful day at the local range here in Townsville today, for our monthly competition. Three targets at 50 metres; 13 shots at each target, counting the best ten shots on each. Only one shooter shot better than me, a difference of 5 points. Very close! The best of all...

Pawnshop find , what is it ??

No, not Fallow, a different species all together. Interchange Axis or Chital only. Fallow Have been introduced to Australia too, particularly around the Stanthorpe region of Queensland, and the highlands of Tasmania. Fallow can be spotted through their whole lifetime, but some present as fawn...

Pawnshop find , what is it ??

Yes, @ Jaeger, I did. And I ate every bit of her too! Though, the deer in question is not a Bambi fawn. This is a first-year Chital hind, otherwise known as Axis Deer. Some say they are the prettiest of all the deer species. They were introduced into Queensland, Australia, back in the mid 1800s...

Pawnshop find , what is it ??

Yep. Rocky Mountain Hawken, Pedersoli. That's a lovely get for sure, @ Ferryboatcaptain! Try a .530 round ball, .018 spit lubed patch (pillow ticking), and 80 grains of FFG real black. Enjoy your prize - I do really like mine! Cheers, Pete
