Ball mold - a nice looking failure

Just call Larry Calahan and he could make you a small bag mold.

    REALLY DIRTY bore!!!

Soak them in a PVC pipe tube, kerosine works well or any penetrating oil. Fine steel wool woven into a copper brush and sprayed or dipped in lube is what I use when I discover these finds or someone brings one in. Always worth a try.

New to black powder. Looking for accessories or necessities

BE STRONG, very hard just going in and not leaving with other eye catching items. Seems every time I get to make a stop at Track of the Wolf I spend three times what I planned on.

    Well done.

New to black powder. Looking for accessories or necessities

A Ball puller and sturdy rod is a must. Try thinner patches first, thumb starting the balls (Traditionally a short starter was never needed), much easier to pull a ball-load if you don't have to pound it down in the fist place. You mentioned the Flintlock shop was only 20 minutes away, it...

    lock lubrication

Olive oil, it's what I use on my patches, bore lube and lock. My guns get used and cleaned a lot otherwise they would get white lithium grease or a dab of motor oil now and then.

    Good deer hunting load

85 grains of one brand of powder may equal 75 grains of another. Another consideration is where one intends to hunt, Whitetails in one state might be no bigger than a large dog and other states run well over 200 pounds field dressed.

    Salutations from Minnesota

Welcome to the insanity. Should still be some black powder clubs down in that area if you continue getting interested.

    Bullet starters?

Much easier to use a tad looser ball/patch combo you can start with thumb pressure, in case of mishap or foul weather it is very much easier to pull the ball and save the powder and lead.

    Cabin Fever Blows

Took off on the snowshoes (with rifle) the other day, about 18" of snow, sank in about 8-10 inches in this fluffy stuff, good to know how out of shape I'm getting to be. Trying to look on the Brightside, only about 90 days left till spring. Oh, and trying to irritate humorless people with...

    Blowing down the barrel

Once again, blow down the barrel JUST BEFORE firing. Got it.

    Blowing down the barrel

Just to be clear, are people blowing down the barrel before or after loading.

    Hopkins & Allen 1860

In the 70's-80's everyone under the sun was importing copies or somewhat copies of the Colt and Remington revolvers, there is no connection with the Hopkins and Allen of years ago. You have a pair of well made pistols, Enjoy. Hopkins and Allen in the 1970 was just one of the dozens of...
