I have never tried this, but I have read the instructions on how to do it.
Place a funnelled tube into the bore and pour a measured amount of bp into the tube. Tap the tube as you remove it from the barrel to ensure that all of the powder is where it should be.
Place a wad into the muzzle and push it down with the ramrod until it seats on top of the powder.
Remove the ramrod and put a bullet into the muzzle. Press down into the barrel until seated, then tap the ramrod onto the bullet twice. (That is two times. Do it once then do it again.) OR place the butt on a set of bathroom scales and press the ramrod down. Record the pressure you use so that it is repeatable.
Now the wet part. Remove the ramrod and use a wet patch to swab the barrel. Remove the rod and swab. Use the gun.
The idea is that the water left behind by the wet patch keeps the fowling soft and the next shot removes it.
I have never tried it. I do not know if it is safe. Doing this will still place your hand over the muzzle.

Hey @TDM I like to clean with pure elephants tears. Do you think this will prevent flash rust or do i need to add boiling frog gizzards to my potion? You know I really want to season my steel barrel!
A word of caution: Elephant tears are very salty. They will cause severe rust in your barrel. To prevent this, neutralize them with bile from a mosquito's gall bladder. I learned this the hard way. You're welcome.

Pray tell what does this have to do with Traditional Muzzle Loading?????????????????????????

Attention deficit syndrome.

Time to shoot this thread.

I blow into the bore after each shot - but not in the woods. I also do not put my lips in contact with the barrel. I make a sort of "tube" with my palm and blow through that.

yesterday i shot my .45 flintlock SMR. that has a barrel so long that when i blew down the barrel it caused me to pass out! all these nay sayers are RIGHT! it is dangerous to blow down the barrel! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
and that barrel is so long that i had to stand on a step stool to reach the muzzle. double the danger!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
can this thread die or is it immortal? zombie thread maybe?

I only use a brass hammer when pounding large balls into small bores, makes a bullet shaped projectile. Really rough on the ram rod though.

By the way, blowing down your barrel is prohibited on shooting ranges in Germany,
and will give you an instant match DQ.

It is good to have a serious thread. Seriously, I do not see the purpose to blow down the barrel of a muzzle loader where access is only via the sharp end. Breech loaders yes. Muzzle loaders no.
After thought: with double barrelled guns it would be better to use your nostrils rather than your mouth and do them both at once.

Giottos Rocket Air Blaster could be interesting, even has lanyard holes in the fins. I use one for cleaning keyboards and cameras. The tip is slightly tapered so one could use a short piece of plastic tubing if needed. It puts out a pretty good amount of air.

Snot a good idea.

It's a really neat gadget, puts out a strong blast of air. I bought one 4 or 5 years ago to blow some dust off of some 35mm slides that I inherited from my uncle. In addition to all the slides, I received a grocery sack full of developed negative strips, mostly photos he took during the Korean War. Some are pretty gruesome. Believe it or not, I found a slide and negative copier off of Amazon for about $80, and it does an outstanding job of converting to a digital image, it even will convert the negative to a positive image. The rocket blower is great for blowing the dust and lint from the film.

would love to see those slides gunny.
i aquired 4 slide boxes with 500 slides in each of a families vacation trips across the country circa 1920 thru 1948. many of the slides record what is no longer existing.
i have a few of MT. Rushmore being created.
i got a digital scanner and started transferring them to disk. have about 1950 slides to go!
