    Wall piece or valuable

I've a half-dozen original shotguns in what appear to be the same condition as yours & have enjoyed shooting several of them over 60 years. Each antique/original is a unique combination of parts. Some will last for several generations. Others started out 'questionable'. Value is always what...

Whats some things you wish you knew about/had early on when you started shooting these?

One- piece metal cleaning rods (screw-together eventually break or come apart - sometimes inside your barrel) just go buy a good one save yourself a bit of cussin' sooner or later.

    Unknown Muzzle Load Pistol

That's one of the prettiest pistols of the type I've seen. Thanks for posting. One could put together a nice collection of the genre as it had a long run and a goodly number of variations from an assortment of makers and importers.

    What is this 50cal worth?

It's worth what someone will pay and not one centavo more. This forum is a great place to sell = no b.s. fees, etc. We just pick a number, post an appropriate set of photos with identifiers and ..either it sells or it doesn't. (following all state, federal, local laws of course). This particular...

    Most 'Authentic' Hawken

Anything with a coil spring lock and cast engraving isn't even close to reproducing a m/l from the 19th century. Still shooting an Ithaca Hawken from many decades ago. Finished from a kit for me by a dear, departed friend. They were never cheap goods and, at the time the kit was all I could...

    Misinformation on GB

I figure eventually someone on this forum will "want" something I have in my cache of what "Management" (wife) considers Creek Trash and alas! the old man can, at last, prove to be semi-coherent for saving that one thing for 50 years. While I sold stuff on EBay when it first started, I got...

    Carrying a pistol

Well, I figure it's better to have one and not need it than need one and not have it. Missouri's "Primitive Weapons Season" has morphed from a sporting chance to anything short of flame throwers. Early days, an unpleasant encounter in the deer woods meant two people armed with front-stuffers...

whats your favorite part of muzzleloading, what keeps you hooked?

Memories. Every item I fool with brings back memories of great times, old friends and family events from the last 65 years. Hunts, shoots, fixing stuff in someone's shop, trips to Dixie Gunworks, driving to Friendship, meals, even arguments of long ago come back as I look at and fool with...

    Smoothbores, 12ga. vs. 20 ga. ?

I just like the 12 gauge. All my m/l shotguns are 12's. Don't use them for deer. Whatever turns your crank.

Glad to have you here. Welcome from N.E. Missouri.

    Gardening ..again

Sorry to get that report. Farmers and Gardners are gamblers, for sure. Sometimes we go bust overnight, other times it takes a while, but by golly it's still fun to ante up and see what hand the Lord deals out. Royal Flushes are rare (barn bustin' crops), mostly I draw a pair of deuces.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Running late shipping the original manual and factory box for a Jonathan Browning Mountain Rifle I bought September 15, 1975 according to what I wrote in the manual (That doesn't sound right) for $417.00 (That sounds right - three years before we got married and expensive gun purchases went...

Anyone get a Pietta G&G Clone from this most recent batch?

Midway has some good sales every now and then. "Birthday Rebate" got me again this year, Just what my heirs' upcoming estate sale needed - a "1851 Navy Steel frame, 7 3/8", .44, with checkered grips and an extra cylinder". Resisted the G&G so far.

    Non-shooting camp games ideas?

Bobbin' for apples is a crowd pleaser. So is rock chuckin' - hang something from a limb and throw rocks at it - perhaps a character portrait of an unpopular individual. Kids love to throw rocks. Make a "Bag Swing" out of a burlap bag, rope, and old clothes. Few kids today've ever seen a bag...
