    Squirrel Hunting Attire

Main thing for me are pants that protect from stickers, thistles, and such. Gotta wear a cap/hat/something b/c skeeters & gnats bite me all over my head. Otherwise, my squirrels aren't picky about fashion. Movement gets their attention.

Crazy Crow non iron "Iron" cookware?

I'd not trust that stuff. "Lodge" manufactures cast iron cookware right here in the U.S.A. They even have a factory store where we buy seconds and rfactory over-runs. If scouts and my family can't ruin stuff, it's pretty well proven to be suitable. Painted cookware ? Nah.

    Can You Help?

Mebbe some of are old-timey "woke" - we woke up in the wrong century. Makes no difference what a person shoots. Equating HUNTING with electric feeders, plastic houses on stilts, thermal imaging scopes, etc. is what makes me want to puke green chunks. Fair Chase separates the men from the boys...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Midway USA sent me a 20% discount (entire order), so I splurged. Just finished unpacking an 1851 "Colt" .44 steel frame pistol with a 7 3/8" barrel and checkered grips (Pietta) and an extra cylinder. Also - two Traditions revolver cylinder loaders and a Ted Cash nipple wrench. Saved over $85...

    Thoughts when buying a gun

There will always be people who could break an anvil. Observed over my lifetime is how lost/broken rates go down when the user has to replace the item out of their pocket or the item is theirs in the first place.

    Chestnut?

My son has about 300 chestnut seedlings he's sprouted over the winter. There is a new blight-resistant variety being propagated. I bought/planted 7 of them (potted, not seedlings). Two are doing well. Apparently, our creek bottom may be too wet. They reportedly were excellent deer and turkey...

    Rabbit hunting and gear

Max (Basset) found turnips to his liking. He started going out to the garden, digging them up and bringing them into the house to eat. This winter, he dug up every left-over turnip in the garden & brought them inside. Some, he hid various places. Piece by piece, he also drug three deer carsasses...

    Rabbit hunting and gear

We've switched to Bassets. Scent tracking ability second only to blood hounds. Won't run rabbits out of the county, but will keep 'em moving (sometimes slow enough to shoot with a pistol). Roscoe was our Beagle/Basset mix who died of old age. A hunting dog. Max is our present Basset - in his...

    To go left-handed or not

Have a little experience with teaching people with dominant eye/handedness problem. Normally, we taught "keep both eyes open" for open iron sights and shotgun bead, but found some success with going to "keep one eye closed" or blocked. It is apparently an individual problem, but all eventually...

    Shotgun morning.

Thanks. I've been reluctant to do so to avoid scratching the wood. Gotta say, all of the accessories that came with the gun are still in use (except the powder flask - never used it yet). Scared to get the gun buggered up, really. Happy hunting to you.

    New from South Africa

Welcome from Northeast Missouri. South African doctor sewed up my leg at a hospital in Dawson City, Yukon. Had some interesting stories. Glad you're here. Stick around and share photos, please.

Nipples: To Remove Or Not Remove

Sure looks nice in your photos. I also regularly shoot originals but have relegated one to wall hanger status now that I've examined it more closely. It's an over/under percussion rifle/shotgun. The wood has always been oil-soaked but appeared sound. Well, it has become punky. Better to enjoy it...

    DP Frontier.50

Don't give up. If you stay with it, try different fixes, when you get everything in sync, that's a "Michelangelo Moment" (Enjoy a deep breath, relax, and smile because YOU did it.). Flints are like a good hound dog. Not all are equal, but when you find one that throws showers of sparks and lasts...

    Intuitive shooting

The Army/Daisy training program was called "Quick Skill" in the civilian world at it really, really works. The BB guns had adult-size stocks and no sights. Targets were thrown from the side a short distance away after instruction on "leading" moving targets and concentrating on the target...

    Shotgun morning.

Enjoy your posts. Please tell us you do not eat rooks. They look a lot like crows. I also enjoy my Beretta o/u.

    Light hunting rifle, straight stock?

Comfortable, wide buttplate would be my choice. Straight stock rather than extreme drop - remember shooting grand dad's old single-shot 12 gauge and how much it kicked?. His had so much drop it was impossible (even for adults) to gain a proper mount. I only have two .58's, but a buttload of...

    Underhammer question

Been shooting those since the 60's. The "takedown pin" that holds the barrel in the receiver is tapered. It will go in both ways (for a bit), but if you try to hammer it in the wrong way....just don't. (Speaking from experience.) The buttstock is prone to splitting if you try to ram a patched...
