    Gauge, Bore and Choke

Just one small clarification. Current millimeter caliber designations can actually be bore + groove depth or bore size. Clear as mud. 😂

    Gauge, Bore and Choke

Historically bore as expressed by the makers varied with time and area. French bores could be expressed by the size of the bore or the size of the ball, and they used the livre which was a different number per than the English pound.

Does the French dragoon pistol have a flared barrel? And you can get a better kit from TRS.

    Virginia smooth rifle

Fusil had several different meanings in that period as well. It could be a light military style musket, a fowler or just a long gun regardless of the type of bore. Deringer made trade guns, the Indians liked either actual rifles or actual smoothbore types, they didn’t really like smooth rifles.

OK, so it may not be HC correct.......

Yes, “historically correct” is COPYING what was done and how it was done as best as we can now. Reimagining isn’t. Nothing wrong with contemporary builds, just call them that.

    Kibler Breach Plug

Just the same as removing a nut from a bolt. Lefty loosey, righty tighty.

    Kibler Breach Plug

Why not? Removing a breech plug is rather simple.

    Building yet another NW gun

The stocks on most reproduction Fusil de chasse guns is greatly exaggerated. The shape was much more graceful on originals, both Tulle and St. Ettiene.

    Rust protection.

I pour ambient temperature water down the barrel with the hole plugged with a toothpick and slosh all the crud out right on the spot. I follow that with a ball of wet flax tow and then one with 75/25 water/Ballistol. I wipe off the outside when I get home. Not rust in my bores.

I am still convinced you have a bunch of widows and orphans cranking those out for you. 🤣

    Rust protection.

Well I don’t have either problem now.
  18. Clark Badgett

    Rust protection.

Yeah, I used hot water until about 2000, kept getting flash rusting. I switched to cool water and never had that problem again.

Water is all you need to clean. Oil to protect afterwards.
