    Build an underhammer rifle

Think I mentioned it before, but there is a lovely diagram of the "Dr. Gorning Underhammer" action in Ned Roberts's "Muzzleloading Caplock Rifle."

    Book. Early American Underhammer Firearms.

Thanks for the heads up. There is another forum where any mention whatsoever of underhammers is absolutely forbidden. Screwy.

    Rabbit

On a stick over a fire according to the movies? Maybe salt it first and let sit a while, then rinse off the salt before roasting? Interesting problem.

    Escopetas again

Or a macuahuitl! Some of the lads on PaleoPlanet have made some incredible replicas with knapped obsidian blades. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macuahuitl#:~:text=A%20macuahuitl%20(%5Bma%CB%90%CB%88k%CA%B7awit%CD%A1%C9%AC%5D),with%20several%20embedded%20obsidian%20blades.

    Escopetas again

I have to wonder how comfortable those Morions were while marching with Oñate through the 110-degree heat of the Jornada del Muerto. Gatorade, por favor?

    I never met an underhammer...

That sawhandle grip really is surprisingly comfortable, even if ugly as sin.

Oldest firearm found in the U.S.

Miner, the meeting was at the convention center in the mountain town of Ruidoso, New Mexico. As Deni concluded her talk and question taking, someone opened a side door in the auditorium just as a powerful thunderstorm broke to end a drought. It was magical.

Oldest firearm found in the U.S.

Deni gave a presentation on the status of her Coronado project a couple of years ago to members of the Jornada Research Institute, based in Tularosa, New Mexico. I was a member of the JRI board, and the institute is a financial supporter of Deni's work. Pretty fascinating stuff, and she included...

My latest daydream: A Kibler escopeta ...

Nate, no, I have not messaged Jim Kibler about the escopeta project, but probably should mention it -- if he hasn't seen this thread. Can't hurt, can it? And welcome to the forum!

What do you guys lube your C&B revolvers with?

Monsieur De Land, I am most impressed with your set-up. I ran out of my last batch of Matthews lube a few years ago and should make another. Also greatly admire your Fred Lieth punch, which Paul M. used to sing the praises of. I have used both Matthews and SPG to lube the conicals for the 1860...

He gave a great speech to Park Cities Quail last year. He's OK in my book.

    My new to me BlunderBeast

We have an abundance of tiny desert cottontails in this section. They recovered nicely from an epidemic of hemorrhagic fever a few years back. Wonder how they taste, living out there in the desert among the creosote bush, cholla, yucca and ocotillo.
