    Pronunciation of "gonne"

I just ran across a reference to William Tyndall translating "dag gaddol" from the Hebrew book of Jonah 2:1 as "greate fyshe" in his 1534 opus. How pronounce ye this?

Dale mentioned the Matsumoto Castle Gun Corps

Here are just a couple of their wonderful Youtubes. Lots to look at. I was quite taken by the device for holding smoldering match. \

    12L14 Steel good enough?

I asked a gunsmith friend and retired US Army armorer who is a Douglas barrel devotee about this. He said in the 1970s, he saw as many as 30 Pratt and Whitney rifling machines making ML barrels at Douglas -- until some guy did in fact fail to seat a ball and blew up one of their 12L14 barrels...

When did deep frying come along?

MB, that means you are cooking like Graham Kerr ... 😄

When did deep frying come along?

I simply used some pinot grigio I keep on hand when white wine is called for in cooking. I think this marinade would be also great for shrimp destined for the kebab skewer.

    New Batch Biltong

Neil, this is very interesting. What steps does your process involve to eliminate the possibility of trichinosis?

When did deep frying come along?

Made 1736 drumsticks this evening. I am a rookie deep fat fryer and my Presto cooker said not to use lard or shortening, so I caved and used peanut oil topped up with canola, which I despise and did it in the garage to keep the grease stink out of the house. It still came out very good, with...

When did deep frying come along?

Drumsticks are marinating. Hope to get them fried before the severe weather develops later this afternoon. The marinade really does smell wonderful.

    Speaking of arquebuses

My apologies if someone posted this link before. I had seen the short one, but not this one and it is fascinating. If there were some sort of Nobel Prize for enthusiastic firearms historians and experimenters, I would nominate our Hungarian friend Balász Németh!

SOLD Side-seam pebble-grain deer hide moccasins

This nice pair was hand-sewn for me by a former member here, Micanopy, if anyone remembers that fine Texas gentleman. I tried them on then put them away and they have sat in a box for so long that my feet have since changed. I now wear a 9 1/2 (9 to size 10 depending on the maker) and while I...

    SOLD NorthWest Company flag

I've had this sweet little flag sitting in a box for so long I can't remember where I bought it. Size is 24 by 12 1/2 inches. This is sewn, not printed. $30 shipped. I was prompted to seek out such a flag after seeing an exhibit at the High Desert Museum just south of Bend, Oregon and near the...

FS, then don't look up Cap and Ball's Landsknecht Arquebus Youtube, whatever you do, or you'll be a goner (in the current sense of the word).
