What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Thank you for the kind words. As far as stripping, most of the old bluing was badly worn and almost off. I used progressive papers, 400, 600, 1,000 and 1,500 grit. Degreased with Dawn dish soap and water, rinsed, dried and further degreased with acetone. Applied Van’s gun bluing (cold bluing)...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Recently acquired a ASM 1851 Navy (in .44 fantasy) and ASM 1860 Army. They both needed milling marks polished out, action parts polished and smoothed, minor corrections to fit, stripped old cold blue and re-blued. Went to the range. First to targets are the 1851, six shots, followed by six...

    Can’t find a rifle!

Kibler can recommend someone to put your Woodsrunner or Colonial together. You get a super high quality historically accurate rifle that will not lose value. Do call Kibler and speak to either him, his wife Katerine or his assistant Lori.

    Can’t find a rifle!

No! Bob Hoyt will not do it on a 7/8” barrel. It’s neither safe or worth it. The Pedersoli also has a chambered breech and a not-so-great quality lock. Find something better. You will be happier in the long run. Trust me, I ran that race.

    Can’t find a rifle!

I had a Hatfield, in .50, which is what the Pedersoli frontier and the Cabelas blue ridge are patterned after. Although Pedersoli did offer it in a .54, Bob Hoyt refused to open my .50 to a .54 since the barrel is on 7/8” across the flats. The Pedersoli lock is an underperformer as far as locks...

    Lock Binding

We’ve all been there and probably will re-visit again.👍

    Lock Binding

In adjusting the set trigger, back it out, way out. Slow screw it in while trying it until the lock no longer functions. Back it out one full turn. This is your main adjustment. Make minor adjustments either way until you are satisfied. Snoot

    Lock Binding

Since manufacturers make these set triggers for custom builds it’s not uncommon for them to be a bit too long. Remove the screw, carefully take off a thread or two. Just don’t take off too much! Am I entitled to a discount? Just kidding. When these problems occur I always remove the trigger...

    Lock Binding

Looks to me like you’ve got the set trigger adjustment screw way to far in. Back that screw out until it works.

    Shrunk stock

I would consider gluing paper shims on the ‘inside’ of the barrel bands to snug them up. Done right, it won’t show. Use a water soluble glue if someone wants to remove the shims from the bands. I would not recommend messing with the wood.

I’m certain autocorrect messed up your post as this is a percussion lock ignition, not a matchlock.

What mistakes have you noticed in movies/tv shows that happen in the BP era like Daniel Boone, Patriot etc?

Most all of Hollywood types are liberal gun haters. No surprise that the effort to research these “hateful” things falls short.

Loyalist Arms vs. Veteran Arms flintlock pistols

That’s so the dealer can move the sights to the side of the barrel, more comfortable for urban predators to use.

    Patchbox on Kibler Woodsrunner

Correct! You can’t put the wood back. But if a bit too much is taken off the front bevel you can glue a thin strip of leather on the front bevel of the patch box lid. Just enough compression to work well, no rattles and snug secure ‘click’ of the spring. Useful also if the wood shrinks as it ages.
