    What Was Under Your Tree?

???? Oh I don’t know, once had an umbrella with a faux bamboo grip. It had a small label pressed into the handle that read “ Genuine Plastic Made in Italy”

    New to forum

Welcome to the world of flintlocks and the forum! You will not be sorry you purchased a Kibler kit. The best info you will find on your kit would be to watch Jim Kibler's excellent videos.

    “Posted Bridle”?

I’ve seen and worked on lesser quality locks where there is some slop in the bridle and/or undersize screws. Depending on how and where they are tightened the tumbler may be free or binding a bit. This sure seems more effective than screws alone. I own one of these locks and it is the finest...

    “Posted Bridle”?

Here is the information and photos taken from Jim Kibler’s video: Kibler’s machined round faced colonial lock, link below. As he states the bridle does not require screws to locate the bridle in the lock plate. There are small recessed holes in the back side of the lock plate where the bridle is...

    “Posted Bridle”?

As far as I know, Jim Kibler’s locks are the only currently available locks that have a bridle with integral posts machined in them. These fit into the recessed holes on the back side of the lock plate and this configuration allows the tumbler to be perfectly aligned for best/fast operation. I...

    Smoothbore shotgun for turkey

Why not chrome plated miniature landau irons set in the wrist area and a purple to rainbow sling? Don’t forget orange dingle balls applied to the bottom of the shooting bag for those states requiring orange. Just for yuks, no offense intended. Do whatever you want, it’s your gun!

    Powder source....the good stuff

Yes, I heartily agree and I’ll add a traditional flat faced breech plug and a correctly positioned touch hole. The Kibler round faced lock on my Colonial rifle is unquestionably the finest lock I’ve ever owned, and I have owned and worked on many.

How you clean pan & frizzen?

I’ve found that mirror polishing the pan cavity and the bottom of the frizzen reduces fouling sticking to those surfaces. Rough cast surfaces catch and hold fouling better.

Ok did i mess thus one up is back

I did basically the same thing. Used Permalyn and almost instantly regretted it. Not sure why but my stock also looked worse the following day. The definition in the grain faded and looked muddy. Stripped the stock, no small feat, and lightly sanded. Had to refresh the incised carving a bit...

Making Barnett N.W. gun for Ricky

If its easy enough, remove the trigger guard and trigger. If the lock holds at full cock, trip it with a small screwdriver. If all works well, I’d bet the trigger bar might be a bit too high. Seems to be a test that works for me. Best wishes!

Wow! Beautiful job. Someday, I would really like to have you make one for me.

How hard is it to fit RPL lock?

Yes! A Dremel is absolutely the fastest way to be the newest member of the ‘Why’d I do that?’ regret club.

    Pedersoli locks bad?

Not all do. Most of the non military repros do.

    Gemmer Hawken review

Great rifle but what a billboard. Geez, serious draw filing and cold blue required in my humble opinion.
