    Treso Aluminum Bronze Nipples

I have noticed over the last year or so less online sellers were carrying Treso's. Besides Slix Shots, Track of the Wolf sells a stainless steel nipple under their name that is described as similar to Treso's. I've bought three/four sets and they work very well with both Rem 10's, CCI 11's, and...

    Guns International

Have used GI only once. One thing I do like about it vs GB which is an online auction is that you can make an offer to the seller for a firearm and not have bidders running up the price as on GB. I've heard instances where sellers will get bidders to bid up the price of a firearm and of bidders...

    Misinformation on GB

I quit GunBroker for several reasons. I only used them basically for buying rifles/handguns shooting modern powder (S-less) that were never or rarely available in my area from gun shops/gun shows. Firearms produced mostly 1900-1955 for rifles, 1950-1980's. Think my first buy was around 2010 or...

    Powder Flask repair

Duh---didn't look close enough at your spring picture. I tried fixing up a spring once that had 'lost its spring'. Would have been easier to thread a needle blind. Yours being broke is trash time. More 'harmonious outcome' just buying a new one and installing. Making a serviceable spring or...

    Powder Flask repair

Those Colt style flasks as yours is are made of copper with brass heads. Some such as the larger 'Peace' flasks are made of brass. I've some of both metals. Keep them wiped once in a while and they stay tarnish free. My 52 year old Colt flask I soldered the seam on other than a few very small...

    Powder Flask repair

What is the 'skinny' at the top of the flask? Is that corrosion or what? If all is ok with the copper, Yep, it is worth fixing. I've replaced springs before, had the lever pin break on one and repaired it. Had a Colt flask like the one you show have the side split one time. Gently clamped it and...

    Oval Bolt Stops

Well I'll be!! Yer right on that. Never paid that much attention to the early Colt notches that they are called ovals, but arenot true ones. Looked up and read the true geometric definitions of an oval and what constitutes a 'stadium shape (geometric stadium shape). Brought back alot of terms...

Uberti 1858 New Army nipples- what other 1858 cylinders do they fit?

Check Track of the Wolf's website nipple section. They give a complete/accurate as far as I know guide of what revolvers-rifles/manufacturers take as far as nipple thread, length, etc and what is interchangeable. FWIW Uberti and Pietta cylinders aren't interchangeable from model to model. I have...

torque setting for percussion pistol nipples

No offense OP but in 52 years of percussion revolver shooting, torqueing the nipples has never even came to mind. Screw em in until tight and then give them a little extra squeeze. Have never had a single one back out when shooting or found one so when taking out for cleaning. Back in the early...

    Oval Bolt Stops

While all of my Colt percussion revolvers I had prior to my Walker and Whitneyville Dragoon all had the rectangular slots, I wondered the same thing, ie if they worked as well and were as strong of a lock up. A long time and knowledgeable poster on the CAS City forum posted a well written with...

    Old Remington percussion caps

I have some Rem #10's with this style of tins and wrapping. Have kept them in temp/humidity controlled area-still fire 100% of the time. Several years ago I found two tins of Rem#11's that were not in a controlled environment that were from some time in the 90's, they all fired 100%.

Possible new option for a cap making tool!

Patmarlin: Your cap making die/tool looks interesting, as long as percussion caps are scarce at times and overpriced, could very well be a shooting life saver for percussion shooters. Have a couple of questions. Have read posts by others and you that your tool makes an equivalent of a number 11...

    Cap jam

Amen to that!! Slix, Track of Wolf, or Tesso nipples along with proper caps preferably Remington #10's go ALONG way in preventing cap jams. Heck even with factory nipples using Rem 10's I rarely rarely have a cap jam and don't need to take the time or expense of installing by myself or having...

    DEEP CLEANING

Loyalist Dave and ppg1949 I know what yer talking about and feel yer pain. When I go through stuff, the process is 'singular', that is 'I' go through stuff, not 'plural' as in 'We' go through it.

    DEEP CLEANING

Ya I've had sessions like that in my basement, shop, and rarely used bedroom that doubles as mini-storage area. Thoughts like "I wonder what happened to those/that" and/or "Forgot I bought those/that"!

    Help with Colt

I don't see what the problem is, just remove the wedge before starting the cleaning process. I always have and will continue to do so.

    Lubricated wads versus non-lubricated wads

My mistake also for not reading OP's post very good. I usually read every post well before posting, somehow this one slipped by me. I was wondering if this could be the reasoning.

    Lubricated wads versus non-lubricated wads

To get back to the OP's original 'IF' I were to leave a cap and ball revolver loaded for any period of time, I'd go with an unlubed wad. Some of the wads you can buy commercially state they are lubed, but it is a dry lube. I always relube them with one of my concoctions as I feel they don't have...
