    Brand new shooter and gun

Have heard the same thing a number of times about the Uberti made Lyman's being one of the best made Remington copies ever available. Was going to get one of each caliber back in the day but opted for a new vehicle at the time.

    Brass screws

IMO I like a firearm of yesteryear to be as close to what any originals were, but I'm not such a stickler that I don't change lanes so to speak, go off of the reservation, and change/do things that are more pleasing to my eye. I'm finishing up a CVA flintlock 45 pistol kit I bought waaaaaay back...

    Pietta .44 navy?

Thank you Gee Dog. I read somewhere once upon a time of this revolver, forgot all about it. Interesting read. I'll have to save that posting. Read a copy of a small article once upon a time that had been written and posted some time back in the early 1900's in some publication of the many...

    filler or no filler

Back in the days I greased over the balls prior to mid 90's, I had to have eyeglass cleaner and tissues as par of the necessary items due to blowback of grease. An old rag hanging on holster belt also required, still do have a rag needed at times, but not as in the 'greasy days'! 😅

    Brand new shooter and gun

Welcome to the forum. You need to give the barrel and cylinder a good cleaning from all of the oils put on them at factory. Make sure nipples are clear. Pipe cleaners work good, canned air or a air compressor free of moisture in its tank can be used to clear them also. As far as the internals...

    Pietta .44 navy?

Well ya, there never was a Colt Navy frame in 44 caliber (that we know of). I have read that some feel and some evidence indicates that Sam Colt and the boys experimented with a 51 Navy frame 44 but dropped it in favor of the 1860 Army model in 44. Whatever may have been it is said that any and...

    filler or no filler

I don't and never have used fillers, except once.. IMO just another step not needed same as using grease on top of ball. Load powder, felt wad, ball, cap and fire. I never use squeaky loads in my cappers, nor magnum over powdered loads that do nothing but make unneeded fire and spew unburned...

    Traditions Walker

Couldn't tell ya that, all I know is that on another forum there are guys who have worked on a variety of Italian made reproductions over the years and Traditions and Armi San Marco's are not held 'high on the shelf'. Poor steel, ill fitting parts, parts hard to come by (as many other Italian...

    Traditions Walker

While I haven't seen the revolver in question, most Traditions I've seen have IMO subquality finish and construction. No offense to those who may have them but that is why they are usually lower in price than others. Have never heard many favorable reports on Armi San Marco revolvers over the years.

    Different types of caps

Ya M. De L., but I'm not going to tease Murphy's Law by squeezing a percussion cap in a vice. Ya, I'm aware a good forceful strike is required probably 99.9% of the time to cause a percussion cap to ignite, but again, by having to force a tight fitting cap to seat with a dowel, deer antler, or...

    Different types of caps

Glad you found something CCI 10's fit 'fishmusic'. I have a variety of Peitta and Uberti revolvers that they don't fit factory nipples, nor do they fit any of the various nipples you can buy as replacements. Only exception is a spare Pietta Remington cylinder I bought from a member on another...

    Different types of caps

Natchez is a top shelf outfit, have had many a successful and pleased orders from them. I'm suspecting that possibly CCI had a bad run of caps, poor storage situation or whatever and possibly sent them out to distributors so as not take a hit on the cost of production and/or wasn't aware of the...

    The “Rawken”

Neat gun Banjoman!!!! I bought my TC 45 capper back in 1974, still shoot it. Back in the day they were one of the most loved, most hated ML's to come down the pike. The nitpickers hated them because they were not like true Hawkens. Adjustable rear sight, only one barrel wedge, coil spring, too...

    Pietta 44

Mike in FL----Maybe your problem is not using enough powder. With any firearm increasing or decreasing powder (black, wanna-be black or the other stuff that has no smoke) can tighten or expand your groups. FWIW when you had your Ruger Old Army IMO 18 grains of FFF was a mouse-fart load. I never...

    Different types of caps

If you bought that many caps and paid the Hazemat, I'd be calling Natchez also. What happened to you would be like buying 100# of T-bone steak online and having it arrive spoiled. Had that happen with some chicken once, called the outfit and they sent a like order plus more. (UPS shipment got...

    Different types of caps

I've read on another forum that Vista was producing Rem 10's in some capacity and have heard that some shooters/forum members were buying them in their area of residence. There was some copy of a Vista news article that indicated they were producing but would take them awhile to meet the demand...

    Different types of caps

I have always had good luck with Rem 10 and CCI 11's. Rem 11's have a short skirt on them (shorter than the two I just mentioned) and from what I've seen and read elsewhere are notorious for falling off the nipple after firing due to the metal skirt really splitting, falling where not wanted. I...

    .45 for squirrel? Powder charges?

I know this is a flintlock section and most likely talking about a long barrel rifle, but when I used to hunt squirrel with my short barrel T/C Hawken percussion rifle, 50 grains of FFF and a ball was very accurate anything from a treetop to most close range shooting under 50 yards. I rarely...

    Wire bolt/trigger spring

Give the washer under the spring a try also. Made a big difference on several of my Colt 1860 frame unmentionables. As recommended by a knowledgeable gun plumber on the CAS Forum, I'm going to try just to see how they affect the actions on several of my Uberti cap guns is the use of Pietta...
