    Copper cookware

Most copper cookware pieces are tinned these days and some better pieces were then. if you cook tomato, or other acidic foods, the pot should be tinned because acid foods react with the bare copper. Otherwise, bare copper cookware is fine.British restriction on Probably, it was more likely for...

If 'lines' in Springs cause them to break ... then WHY do these work?

I'm no expert but it looks to me as if those "grooves" were cast in-not cut in. It seems that they would not create a weak point for stresses in the metal because those stresses would have been set in the casting, and are essentially round-bottomed. In working wood, sharp edged grooves or...

    Removing slime mold from cooperage

Removing mold from barrels is difficult. You can remove the surface mold and possibly get deep enough into the fibers to "kill"the mold. but, if the mycelia (roughly analogous to roots)have penetrated deeper (quite likely), it can regrow when favorable condtions reoccur. If you can get it...

    Different ridge pole?

The 9' ridge for my wedge is a bit different from than those discussed n this thread. We laminated four strips into two sections, with the grain reversed for strength, with one layer offset in each set, to create a 16" (center) overlap. Initially, I used four carriage bolts to pin the splice...

    Mag spark stuck

Pull the barrel. Sink it in a sealed, capped section of PVC (upright). Fill to above the offending"nipple" w/ Evaporust. if the barrel doesn't fill, fill it that deep. Let it soak a few days, then try unscrewing the fitting again. Padded jaws on a solid vice,as others advised. Best stuff I've...

    water profing

If you get heavy plain cotton canvas, the fibers will swell when wet and self seal. Don't touch the inside when it's wet, though. That will create a leak. Not sure of the physics of it but probably something to do with surface tension.

I tried the paint route. It made the tarp too stiff & heavy to use. ( I might have had the wrong stuff though. It was deck "stain", which turned out to be paint.)

New Gun: Am I Doing Something Wrong?

The lock needs someone who knows flintlocks - not necessarily the maker- to tune it. The builder has had a shot at it; I'd take ColonialRifleSmith up on his offer. I don't see a reason to send the whole rifle, just to get the lock tuned. Once it's tuned, you should know if the other problems...

    Ground Cloth for Museum Wedge

Not HC, but I have used a coated painter's tarp. (I cover it w/ another, if my ten's going to be open a lot). It's a bit thin, but keeps the moisture out well.
