    Carbines

Thank you, all. This information and these research leads are very helpful. Some years ago, I replaced a Deerstalker (which I found to be a well-made, very accurate, little rifle) with a longer barreled, more HC designed rifle for reenacting, largely because of criticism that it was "too...

SOLD Back up TN. Classic. 36 cal.

That's one beautiful rifle. The buyer is very fortunate- with a personal hand-off, to boot. Having the builder so close, he has unusual access to you for any questions or advice. I'm interested in your peep sight design. Could you post more detailed pictures of it? Thanks.

SOLD Short Fixed blade Knife ($20)

Laptop's acting up/locked up. Had your reply, then lost it. That reply makes sense. It looks like the blade was stamped to look like it was made from a file. But, as I said, I need a new patch knife. Thanks. Bob

    A Cooper or what?

Thanks for the lead to the Underhammer Society. I've long liked underhammers.

    Vintage leather shot bag

I'd avoid glue, as well. That could adversely affect it's collectable value, too. Just clean it and add a bit of natural oil (Prime Neaysfoot or Lanolin).

    Vintage leather shot bag

That's a very nice flask. I think it seems to be in good enough shape to revive for display.I recall seeing the brass mechanism advertised - somewhere but can;t say where. Sorry. If you decide to soften/revive the leather(I would), and use neatsfoot oil, make sure it is "Prime (pure) Neatsfoot...

    Hawkenized Thompson Center rifle

If you did post this beauty previously, I must have missed it. Hawken's aren't a personal favorite, but you did a fine job on this one. The gorgeous grain in that stock, and who you made it for, obviously inspired you.

    Why Patch -Boxes &

I've considered adding a the cover to my SMR, to hide the holes left by an ill-advised brass tack design, left by a previous owner. He hadn't fired the gun (it was decoration over his mantle), so I've forgiven what I consider a heresy. I haven't seen one large enough and installing a...

    My German Wheellock replica

TFoley already said it better than I can, but I can second his statement, fervently. Your patience and craftsmanship are inspiring, Sir. But for the difference in metal and aged tone, I believe it could have come from a period German workshop - and be coveted by museums.

    Set Trigger

I can't tell from your (OP) picture but, if all of the contact and pivot surfaces are not polished smooth, you could disassemble the trigger mechanism (after taking several reference pictures, from all angles), then CAREFULLY polish those surfaces. Polish manually (power tools turn good parts...

    Carolina Gun / Iron mounted

What was the old steel from? Just curious. Fascinating build. I agree. I'd love to have one of your guns.

SOLD Pedersoli Continental .45 cal. Target pistol

Beautiful-and you obviously understand fine tuning. I wish I had the $- but it would be wasted on my aged eyes and shaky hands. 30 yrs ago, I'd have pawned my work tools to get it.

    Coconut oil

I used to cook w/ coconut oil. I liked it. Haven't tried it as patch lube. to twist the thread a bit, I've read (probably here, come to think of it) that jojoba oil has very similar characteristics to Sperm Whale oil. I picked up a bit, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. (I'm retired, so...

    Hello from South Australia.

Welcome from SW Ohio. I also shoot, & love, a "Southern Mountain Rifle", A lean, simple derivation off the Pennsylvania ("Kentucky") rifle. Information on the style is out there, but takes a bit of digging. Welcome to the smoky side.

    Cornbread?

Try chopped Hatch chilis in your cornbread; it's a great wake-up meal w/ strong camp coffee. Drizzle it w/ honey for the energy to face even a rainy morning.
