Was Dutch right about wiping between shots?

I took the plunge today and used Dawn/water for my patching lube. Our last event of the year was a simple fun shoot, with all shooters firing from 25 yds, testing loads etc. what I immediately noticed was how easy it was to load each shot. No wiping between shot in my test. Pretty good...

Plus, they only needed minute of man accuracy. 3” group at 100 yds or so is perfectly good enough-like shooting at gongs.

Was Dutch right about wiping between shots?

I thoroughly cleaned my barrel, scraped the breech too. Also the vent liner. When I got done, I stuck my tiny bore light into the vent hole. (Light from a night fishing bobber. To my surprise, it looked like the light was ahead of the patent breech cavity. I have enlarged my vent liner hole to...

Was Dutch right about wiping between shots?

Definitely smoke curling out of the touch hole after a shot. I had forgotten that Dutch said TWO patches. I will try using a smaller jag, no way the rig I am using slides down the bore. I have an extra vent liner, and will drill out to 5/64ths. This is very good info, guys! Thanks!

I prime below the level of the pan, and take care that no powder is covering the touch hole.

Was Dutch right about wiping between shots?

I have a TC Hawken I built from a kit. Nice rifle, but I am struggling with misfires. The hammer fallis, charge in the pan goes off, but the powder charge does not fire. This happened at least a dozen times today. I have been attempting to follow The Dutch Schultz method of getting accuracy. He...

Can I switch to left handed shooting?

I have been shooting as a lefty now for a while, and, although a little awkward, no problems. Thanks for the tips!

Can I switch to left handed shooting?

I will do that! I still have my old Sheridan, and it is still in fine shape

Can I switch to left handed shooting?

I have not been on here for quite a while. Life has gotten in the way. My dominant eye is my right one. I have a bad problem with the retina in my right eye. It’s not going away. My left eye is fine-I can see the sights very well. I have never switched to a lefty shooting position-anything I...

    Shooting my Tryon Rifle

I gave my brother a percussion rifle years ago that I had purchased. It is a Pedersoli Tryon Rifle. Got it back from him as he has never shot it. fired a few shots on his visit, but nothing like testing sights, just plinking. Got to the range the other day, little time, but got 5 shots at 25...

What Part Of Clean It Now Don't You Understand?

I swab well with MooseMilk at the range, get the outside clean also. Then clean thoroughly when I get home. Seems to work well.

    Kibler's Hunting Pouch

I am on the side of value for the money. If you factor in the time need to find all these componets, and the cost of tools and supplies that come with the kit, it seems an excellent value for someone who wants to try their hand at such a project. IMHO. hurray for Jim Kibler!

    Flintlocks at Local Shop

Best bang for the Buck are the Renegades. Blue Ridge also a good choice! I would buy any of those three.

How do I use my sights?

A cheap way to learn to shoot is with an air rifle or air pistol. A tin of pellets is not expensive. Typically you get 500 pellets in a tin. Cheapest are the .177 pellets and guns. You can easily practice indoors with an air pistol that has iron sights. Penetration is not a problem unless you...
