    Getting there-improvement

I’m very glad I switched out my sights on my trusty “Kit Hawken”. I have been making steps to improve and it might be working. I got Dutch Schultz’s book, and have been trying his system. I always brought up the rear in our club shoots, and often came in last. Today, went to the range and fired...

    Hawken Target

Dutch Schultz’s book has helped me a lot. Highly recommended-I’m not there yet, but I have made progress. His info on patches seems very good, IMHO.

Pedersoli Back Action Rifle in percussion

I have been poring over sights. I put a Lyman peep on my kit built Hawken, and it works very well. However, I am not sold on the way it looks. Anyone have any recommendations on a tang mounted sight that would work? Also, if anyone knows the twist, it would be appreciated. .45 Tyron is 1/44 I think.

Thank you very much guys! I will pursue improving the sights As fast as I can. I will go with a peep sight as our club does not forbid their use.

    Major improvement

Got out late, but spent about 3 hrs at the range. Only change I made was increasing powder charge to 75 g. Shot from a rest at 50 yds. My first attempt at changing sight settings-finally have it almost sighted in. I will experiment with .495 balls instead of .490. Minor comedy when I got...

    Major improvement

We had a shoot here in Georgia Saturday. Talking Rock Black Powder Shooters. I have been shooting miserably with my TC .50 Hawken I made from a kit. I decided to get off my Fanny and do something about that. since my eyes have lost their Hawkeye ability, I put on a Lyman peep sight, and a Lyman...

    First time casting

Thanks! I’m sure I did not pay enough attention to getting all the junk out of the pot before I began my quest! Some great tips-thank you!

    First time casting

So I decided to try my hand at casting .490 balls for my TC Hawken. Breaking out my ancient Lee furnace and molds, which I never got around to using in the 1980s, I set to reading all I could about casting rb. lee molds had never been used. all went well, and I am generally happy about the ammo...
