Colonial era English fusil? A relic

An old English fowling piece relic made using an even older lock. The second pattern acorn trigger guard and the diaper work "checkering" most likely are contemporary to each other in time frame. Last quarter of the 18th century

$1,000 budget (set on stone): What should I recommend?

Sock the grand away and save a bit more for a plain wood Kibler Woodsrunner. Save a bit more than that and contract someone to put it together if you can't. Instant gratification will fade quickly. Saving a little while longer for a quality piece will usually pay big dividends on...

    SOLD Large caliber English barrel

I actually replied thinking it was in the antique section. I was curious if it was relived in the muzzle area like many older fowling piece barrels were. Claim that barrel!

    Maple finish

I would recommend you Google some of Jim Kibler's videos of using iron nitrate and stock staining. This will give you instruction from a master and you will see the results on screen. There is a lot of voodoo to coloring and finishing wood but you are getting some information on this thread...

    Kibler Fowler

Go with the largest bore size of the O/D if you are planning to shoot flying. 16 You can get a mold made for ball if you must.

    Fusil

When I use the term fuzee I'm usually referring to an 18th century smooth gun that may look like any other birding piece except it is cylinder bored for shooting ball............. oh I also use the term in modern jargon to refer to an emergency road flare 😃

    Fusil

At least it refers to a gun instead of the shooter, e.g., fowler.

I believe I might do the same thing. I have fingers crossed for a nice thin barrel with a big old breech ; )

Best Stain for Figured Black Walnut?

Many pieces of black are just plain nauseating without some help IMO. I have used dilute aquafortis(thisbis nitric without iron added) successfully but it requires care. The easiest method I have found if one doesn't want to play at it is to use some yellow transtint to subdue the purple...
