I.D. "Bear Claw" Chris Lapp's Rifle?

Paints His Shirt Red is obviously a rifle connoisseur, for sure. Probably took a couple of horses and a travois-load of plews for him to procure it in trade from the wealthy gentleman who brought it all the way out from St. Louis. LOL we tend to forget its just a movie, but its fun to immerse...

I.D. "Bear Claw" Chris Lapp's Rifle?

So, what's the consensus? I say a 42"-44" Lancaster percussion conversion, in .54 or .58.

    3. Looks like a percussion hammer to me. Sort of a low straight comb with no "Roman" nose to it. Interesting white wrapping: 4. Wrap appears to be white fur - it flutters as he runs from the "Griz". You can also see the percussion hammer:

I.D. "Bear Claw" Chris Lapp's Rifle?

OK so I still obsess over that movie 52 years distant, so sue me LOL 🤣. Kidding, don't flame me. Everybody comments on Jerimiah's Hawken; nary a word about Bear Claw's. I looked closely, and although the focus is never very clear, we can identify some of his weapon's characteristics. I say...

    My first squirrel rifle.

Dang what a beautiful weapon. My lust and covetousness are large. Needs ramrod and front sight reversed.

Strange Day for Me in the Woods.

I have a friend who is just filled with raw blood lust and the braggadocio of posting his kill pictures. Kill kill kill. He appalls me. The sportsmanship and mercy some have described in here is just absent from him for some reason.

    Weird Things

His single shot pistol was an interesting design. He had a long barrel version and a detachable butt stock to go with it. Pre-dated the Contender; they prob emulated his ideas He also offered a pretty cool half-stock rifle and a revolver if I recall correctly.

    Repair or replace

Off topic, but reminded me. They found a guy dead in his stand from the exact scenario near here somewhere I cant remember details; all I remember is it discharged right up thru him. ETA: Sorry, 1 more: Game warden also told of a guy they found dead hanging in his safety strap, somehow around...

    Repair or replace

Like they say, there are 2 kinds: those who have and those who will break one. Me, being cursed with detail freakism, it would drive me crazy knowing it's there, so I vote for the new stock. Just checked, they're $400 for plain maple uncarved [LINK]. ETA: carved fancy maple like yours, $960...

Show N Tell your first MLer rifle

My first was a Fox Ridge custom TC Hawken .50 flinter I bought when I got out of college, around '82 or so. Sheet fire, that's 42 years ago - I'm getting old. Ignorant, I didn't know what I had, nor did I know how to load it or shoot it or clean it. But I had watched Jerimiah Johnson pretty...

    Cleaning Kibler Woodsrunner?

I don't ever take barrels off. I've been using the magnetic flusher sold by a member in here, davec2, and it works really well: LINK TO FLUSHER Here's the way I clean my rifles - just my 2c, YMMV: 1. I pull the lock and clean it with straight Ballistol 2. Place the magnet over the hole, blow...
