Yep, I do like the stalking safety found on fine British rifles, percussion and flintlock, but the crossbolt safety on any classic rifle is an abomination against God and man.

The stalking safety is also used on German guns. This one is on a Jaeger I restored and it works like a charm.

Stalking safeties were made as a stand alone safety for the gun when carried in full cock and/or the trigger set while stalking an animal. They are totally silent to disengage, where going to full cock and/or setting a trigger makes a nice metallic click.

They work, from experience. Luckily it was just paper I was firing at instead of an angry cape buffalo.

That Jaeger does have a half cock notch, but as Dusty said the stalking safety can be use with half cock or full cock. I still hunt and when on the move use it with half cock and when I find a spot to settle down full cock the hammer but don't set the trigger until ready to take a shot. The set trigger is pretty quiet.
