    Hunting is good for you.

"would do riding much more often than he would be hunting on foot." Riding is a very good workout! You will use muscles you forgot you had!

    Fatal Feral Hogs

Yeah! Saw almost as many nilgai as we did deer. Saw one bull I bet would go 800 lbs! Saw a few javelina but not one hog! Even saw a few quail. Will head back down in January. I’ve had hogs almost run me over trying to get outta Dodge, but that’s as close to being charged as I can get. Had...

    Fatal Feral Hogs

Hey Eutycus! Speakin’ of invasive species, I shot another Nilgai last Thursday evening south of you down in Kenedy co. Big bull. Didn’t see a single dang hog. And I wanted to stick a shoat on the pit while I was down there.

    Dutch oven I.D.?

I’ve taken to using a "comal". Made from disc harrow blade. Fits right on top of my little brazier. Looks a lot like what all the Mexican womenfolk used down here. Cook just about everything in it. Very versatile. Naturally you can’t use it for an oven. But I got plenty of them if I need one.

    Fancy Camp Beds

As an addendum, I needed a somewhat small transport container for assorted camp supplies so I fabricated this combo box/nightstand for the above bed. Still waiting for its paint.

    Fancy Camp Beds

Well I got to try out my new bed this past weekend! Wow! It is most comfy and doesn’t take me long to set up or tear down. Temps at night and into the morning were in mid to low 30’s. Slept very well!

    Fancy Camp Beds

Grenadier, I hope to get to try it out next weekend at an 1820’s even down here. I haven’t finished a tick cover for the cotton pads (I have two now!). But I can cover them adequately. Report to follow.

    Period correct (1750-1840) camp chairs?

I use a ladderback that I put a new woven seat in myself. I wove it out of some kind of natural webbing. Looks like jute. I cut off about 16" off the back. It was one of those real tall ones. Now it easier to use in my wedge tent. Still has two rungs in the back! This summer I picked up...

    Sika Elk on Assateague Island

Yeah, everybody here just referred to them as Sikas. Me? Personally I’m a nilgai sort of fellow! :)

    Sika Elk on Assateague Island

Used to be a lot of Sika deer down here on the exotic ranches. But you don’t hear about them much anymore. I suppose they are still around. I haven’t seen one in a while. But that really doesn’t mean anything. There was talk several years ago about "Super Sika" which I thought were a cross...

    American Jaeger w/Early Virginia furniture

Best I remember about 29". Like I said there was a really bad spot in it I could not get out. I cut off and used as much as I could get out of it to use. :)

    American Jaeger w/Early Virginia furniture

Stophel, On a side note Are you also a fan of Carl Maria Von Weber’s opera, "Der Freischutz”? My little Jäger is aptly named Annchen. ;) A neat opera that has it all. Shooting, magic rifle balls, and a happy ending. ( and the Jägerchor!) Thanks for posting those above photos! Very cool...
