    Heavy shot

You are correct! Bismuth is soft enough to use in BP guns, and legal for waterfowl in most jurisdictions, but it is not very dense. I have been using #4 bismuth for ducks and pheasants. Between the low (relatively) velocity of BP shotguns and low density of bismuth, you really need to stick...

    Drams to Grains?

    Makes sense - thanks!

    Drams to Grains?

2 1/2 drams with 1 1/8 oz shot sounds like it would produce a really low velocity - 1000 fps or so? Does it produce a workable hunting load for you?

    Pedersoli SxS Help Please

Now that the hunting season is over, I finally got around to some much-needed repairs and maintenance. Here is a pic of the SXS with a little soft lead tapped into the recess. I am very pleased with the way it turned out. Thanks to all who responded with advice on how to fix it!

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Love it! All of my TC Hawkens and Senecas use solid brass wedges but I love my old shotguns that use grooved keys - for just the reason you mentioned! Well done! I'll have to dig out the files and go to work!

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Keeping up with my 20-something year old son and his Griffon might be all I can manage, but I'll try to get a few pics - and as shot or two with my Navy Arms SxS. Wish me luck!!

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

In the morning my son and I will be doing some very late season pheasant "hunting" at a game ranch in Eastern Washington. He has a pooch that he wants to get a few more reps before the season is completely over and I always look for a reason to go along. I spent this evening measuring 1 1/4...

FOR SALE Navy Arms 12 gauge sxs

My recollection is that a dime won't fit into a full choke shotgun barrel, but it will fit snugly into a modified and somewhat loosely into an improved cylinder. This is not a good test for a jug choked barrel.

    Why only one?

I say this respectfully - and as a fellow hunter: I think you made a mistake by walking up on that deer before reloading your gun. You just can't be certain when a followup shot will be needed, either to put down an animal that tries to run off, or to dispatch an animal that is mortally...

    Why only one?

I live in Washington state, and I have frequently bemoaned the rules and regulations. That said, I have been checked in the field a number of times while hunting and fishing, and I have not yet met an unprofessional - or even unpleasant Fish and Wildlife Officer.

    Proper powder loads

I don't know about all the calculations or how much powder gets burned and how much is wasted. I do know that when I reduced the charge on my .54 Hawken from 110 grains fff to 90 grains, the accuracy didn't suffer and the recoil was a lot less unpleasant!
