    Never Mind!

This will work just fine for you - just have to get used to it. The plunger will go in either way, and each line has two numbers. Use the lower number if the closed end of the plunger is on the top and the higher one if the open end of the plunger is on top. Kind of hard to read, but once you...

    bank robbery

Hate to see a black powder gun used this way. Had to scare the heck out of some bank employees trying to earn a paycheck. Just another thug who deserves condemnation instead of attention.

    Gun Broker ?

I've bought eight or ten guns on GB over the years. One was substantially nicer than I expected. One was definitely not as nice. Most were just about as described. Gave the really nice one a great review. Just didn't review the bad one. I guess I have just learned to accept the bad with...

So how many different wild meats have you killed, cooked and eaten?

I love Tom Waits' version of Waltzing Matilda - an absolute classic! Regarding the issue at hand: All the normal game I suppose, but one time I shot a rattlesnake when I was bowhunting for antelope, so I felt obligated to give it a try. The meat on top of the rib cage was a little tough...

    Deer Hide Day 3

After the hide soaked in the solution for four days, I put it in a neutralizing rinse, washed it a couple times, then took it out and scraped the hair. It was in my cold garage - and I probably should have changed the water and let it soak another night, but I still got through it. After the...

    Deer Hide Day 3

No doubt you are right! The last hide I tanned produced two pairs of gloves - and involved eight or ten hours of scraping, dehairing, tanning, stretching and softening, EACH!!

    Hello from Washington!

Well I'm glad to see one more ML'er on the west side of the state! Welcome friend. (These guys can rough you up from time to time - but deep down they're good guys and they know their stuff!) Hope you get that flintlock!

    Deer Hide Day 3

Last year I had some gloves made from my F.I.L.'s deer hide. This one is my son's. I scraped the hide a couple days ago and started it in a calcium hydroxide solution. Tomorrow I'll neutralize it, then pull/ scrape the hair and start the tanning process. I'm disappointed with myself when I...

    Cleaning help - please!

Thanks guys - For a little backstory: I have shot Hornady .54 cal Great Plains bullets for years with no problem. But they quit making them some years ago, and I have bought a number of "old stock" bullets for the past five years or so. These bullets were pre-lubed, but the lube was so old...

    Hunter Harassment

I may have misspoke - my apoligies! I completely adhere to the ethos of respect for a landowners preference. I was writing about hunting on PUBLIC land, which we all own. The encounters that I referred to were on PUBLIC land, which was adjacent to private land. I would never expect a...

    Broken ramrod

How is it broken? If it is across the rod, there's not going to be enough surface area for the glue to hold. If its at an acute angle, and you have a 3, 4, 5 inches of wood to work with, it will hold - and you could put a pin through the middle of the repair to strengthen the repair.

Thanks guys! I'll get some lead softener/ solvent and hit it again!

Conical bullets for many years. Cleaning rod is brass (I think?). I always use a collar on the rod.

    Cleaning help - please!

The gun is about 40 years old. I have owned it since new. I shot the bullet at the end of the day since I knew I couldn't let it sit without cleaning until I go back out this weekend. I am hoping it is lead deposits. I've never seen them before - but as I said in the post I was really giving...

    Cleaning help - please!

I hunted all day today in the rain - and knew that my Hawken would need a deep cleaning. As I was running dry patch after dry patch, I saw these specks. I doubt they are related to the rain - and am afraid they are related to some failure to adequately clean the barrel over the years. I have...

    T/C Hawken Breech Plug Screw/Cleaning

Well, to be fair, for me it has only been 40 years. Still - a bucket of hot water and whatever dishsoap my lovely wife had under the sink has never let me (or my ML guns) down!

    Muzzleloader Duck Hunt Success

Sounds wonderful! I don't know that I'll try it on a coot, but it sounds like it would be great on a mallard too!

    Hunter Harassment

I have posted previously that the state (Washington) has done a pretty good job of making public - and private land available to hunters. That said, we have had several encounters with adjacent landowners who made every effort to stop or ruin hunting on property adjacent to their own. Local...
