    Uberti 1860 short arbor fix

It sure is, and I thank Mike for so freely sharing his technique with us. I would have turned a plug to fit. The first one probably wouldn't have been right, I'm sure, it would have taken at least two to get it right. His way nails it first time, every time

    Uberti 1860 short arbor fix

I've done 4 like this, it works like a champ. The bottom of the arbor hole is shaped like the end of a drill bit, so a pan head is self centering. I put them on a snug fitting (Phillips head) screwdriver bit in the cordless and lightly bump them on the running bench grinder. I can knock one out...

Chokes or no Chokes for Turkey Hunting

I posted this already, but this was out of my 50 cal flintlock smooth rifle, no choke. The load was 40 grs 3f, lubed Durofelt wads, 3 thin card wads, brown paper shot cup holding 50 grs of #4 shot, thin overshot card, at 20 paces. Clay pigeon for reference. That's a turkey load.

That's a beautiful gun and bird, WOW!!!

    50 cal smoothbore

It worked out well, but the sights are small, they definitely weren't made for 57 yr old eyes. Without my readers on the notch in the rear sight blends with the front blade. I painted the front orange and wearing 1X readers helps a lot. I hadn't shot ball from it either. Our club has the Last...

    50 cal smoothbore

So, I finally got a chance to pattern my smoothbore on the patterning board at the club. I used Goex 3f, 40 & 50 grs, lubed Durofelt wads, thin card wads, and for some, brown paper shot cups. All shooting was from 20 paces. Shots 1&2 were 40 & 50 grs of powder, wads only, 40 & 50 grs #6 shot...

    62 bore

Yes, this is the exact barrel I built my trade gun from. If you're going to make it a switch barrel gun, you can drill and ream it leaving a 1/4 inch of the original bore at the breech(did just that for another guy), so that you can retain the original breech plug. You need the stock shoulder in...

Heeled bullets for cap and ball revolvers

It came from VTI, it's a trigger guard for the Uberti Richards/Mason conversion revolvers. Or Richards, can't remember, but if you look through the parts list, you'll see it. It's a little long, but the backstrap might need tweaking too. I need to pull the brass one and compare them. Lots of...

Heeled bullets for cap and ball revolvers

Bad Karma, That's still the best looking, and shooting 1860 on the Internet. At least until I can find time to fit the blued trigger guard and nice walnut grips to my Uberti. Then it'll be 2nd best looking!

Nice holster! Sharp leather is almost as captivating as a nice pistol

    Paper nitrating question

Thanks for the reply. I usually tinker with black powder during the winter months, maybe I'll try it both ways.

    Paper nitrating question

Have you compared the difference, untreated vs. treated? I've had good luck with untreated but there's residuals left sometimes. If it makes a difference, I'll add the step

    Paper nitrating question

Potassium Nitrate is also known as Saltpeter(Saltpetre). Be VERY CAREFUL not to ingest it, it has a DOWNER of a side effect! 😳

Heeled bullets for cap and ball revolvers

Bill, What you're talking about doing should work out fine. I bored out an old sizer die to try this with but too many irons in the fire. Keep us up to speed on your experiments, please

    Showing off a little.

Beautiful, I love curly ash. To answer Wiscoasters question, it looks like a light stain/dye and his favorite finish. Ash has some striking grain, it doesn't take much to make it show its stuff. One of the nicest flintlock rifles I've seen had a curly ash stock and dark brown stain, it was...

    Little Critter Gitter

For what you want, the 62 police is hard to beat. 36 power in a kit gun sized revolver. Mine is the same size as a Ruger unmentionable Catbear. That's code talk right there.

    50 cal smoothbore

I can recommend it, this is a T/C barrel on this one, L&R Queen Anne lock. It's bored 5/8", uses a .600 ball with .018 patch. It's been a good gun with both ball and shot
