To much is made of short arbors

This is true, what's missing is that the wedge must have something solid on both sides to push(wedge) against so that it can tighten up. If the arbor is short, the only thing holding the barrel side firm for the wedge to push against and lock is the front of the cylinder, which needs to move. So...

    1860 Army Detachable Stock fitting

Look at how short the hook is compared to the bottom of the grip frame. You don't have enough thread at the top to let the hook down to hook under the grip. I'm thinking the stock is for a Navy grip frame, they're shorter. Is it stamped as to what it fits(besides Pietta)?

    Don't avoid new Uberti sixguns

That's beautiful work! I could look at case colors all day. That's one of the attractions to hunting with my 1860 Uberti, I have something to look at. Gives the deer a chance to get the drop on me. He just had to open that door, didn't he? Must be new here....

Deer Hunting with a Ruger Old Army

A man's got to know his limitations. As long as you make it work for you, and aren't leaving a trail of wounded game, that's all that really matters. 👍

    Ain't that the rotten truth!

    Don't avoid new Uberti sixguns

I have to agree with GYJ, I have a '21 1860 Army, it's probably my favorite revolver, b.p. or modern. I have a couple other new Ubertis, they're good guns, a lot of gun for the money

Deer Hunting with a Ruger Old Army

Why not? They work great. A round ball works, yes, but even going a little faster they're still way behind a bullet in performance. There's only so much room in the cylinder, it amounts to about 5 grains difference. With Goex in my 58 Remington that's 100fps faster, but the bullet hammers...

1862 pocket Navy is what you're after. Ask and you shall receive. This is from Midway, but they can be had from other suppliers

    1849 pocket specialist needed

I have the Lee mould, it fits my navy fantastic. One of these days I want to try it in my 62 Police, just for grins, but I suffer from that common shooter's affliction, lackoftimeosis. 😡

    1849 pocket specialist needed

Here's a good bullet for a 36, that big flat point should hit as hard as you can in 36 cal, and it's no longer than a ball. It would allow within a few grains of what you can use behind a ball. It's from Accurate Moulds.

    1849 pocket specialist needed

Captain, If you will be carrying a c-n-b revolver for protection why not get an 1862 Pocket model, police or navy? They're the same frame size, 36 caliber, hold almost as much powder as a full size Navy. Plus, you can get some pretty good flat point conical moulds for increased, effective, spank...

Have Been Using A Different Approach Making Felt Wads.

I'm going to have to knock a bow out pretty quick. I had my shoulder fixed a year ago and it's still not up to my 55lb longbow. I'm going to shoot for 40lbs. I have some assorted staves in the barn, plus a primo hickory board. But the one I'm thinking of using is a piece of hophornbeam shoot. It...

Bad Karma, you're a bowyer too! Another great hobby/pastime

Deer Hunting with a Ruger Old Army

What Bad Karma stated above is pretty good info. I'm a confirmed handgun hunter and prefer flat pointed conicals for the extra smack and bigger wounds, but at close range a ball works well. Check ACCURATE MOLDS for conicals. Bad Karma has posted pics from their catalog, they have some gems...

    Uberti Remington

Van's got a good idea there, nice work. Keep in mind, you'll only need to shoot once or twice at a deer, so it shouldn't be an issue. Sighting in will be a different story, though. Can you please show pics of mould or bullets? I'm a cast bullet junkie, I love seeing what everyone is using...

Accuracy results in Pietta 1858 Remington using Kerr Bullets vs. Roundballs

Thanks for the post, and for braving the heat. I have the same revolver, it's always been a good shooter, even though the chambers were undersized. I use 30 he's of Goex 3f and either a .451 ball, a .454 ball, or a 185gr flat point conical. They all seem to shoot better than they have a right...

Making some 1/8 inch Duro-felt grease wads

I took this one of my 60 army barrel. I used my phone, it works and was easy for me to figure out how to post them. Neetsfoot oil and beeswax worked good for me, but beeswax, deer tallow and olive oil leave it in the dust. Plus, the neetsfoot mix ate at the metal tins and dried out. Tallow has...

Making some 1/8 inch Duro-felt grease wads

Lubed wads are the only way to fly. My bores look like I've been shooting that modern, fad stuff, I've posted pictures on here a few times. Any chance you can put up a picture of your barrel after shooting? Curious is all, I like to see how the different lubes compare.
