    Re-Bore?

The Bobcat referred to by the OP I believe is a CVA BP rifle. Mr. Hoyt will not re-bore a CVA or Traditions barrels because of the type of breech plug they use.

Looking at getting ahold of a squirrel rifle

There is a Pedersoli Kentucky flint lock in .32 currently in the for sale forum.

    stuck nipple

Soak the breech end of the barrel with the nipple in kerosene for a day or so, then when dry place the end of the barrel with the nipple in a chest of ice for 1/2 hr, then gently fit the nipple wrench and give it a few light taps. Hopefully, the nipple will turn. May have to repeat the...

    Pedersoli Frontier .36 caliber Ramrod

You can also put a slight bend in the ram rod by suspending a weight to the center of the rod with the ends of the rod up on a few books (4" or so). I believe the ram rods supplied are 9mm. You can get them at TOW.

    Over powder patches............

I have found that an over powder patch or wad makes a marked improvement in accuracy if the breech area of the rifle has some corrosion. The extra patch or wad raises the PRB above the corroded area and keeps the ball patch from shredding. I have used an over felt wad on an original 35 caliber...

    .32 caliber rifle

My flint .32 with 42" radius groove 1:48" barrel likes a larger ball. I use Hornady .320 buck shot in a .010 mink oil lubed patch for hunting, and windshield washer fluid at the range. 22-25 grains of 3f is my load for squirrel hunting. No squirrel is safe out to 50 or so yards if I have a...

    Windex Cleans "right now"

I have been using windshield washer fluid for barrel cleaning during a shoot with great results for years. 1 gallon of the blue stuff goes a long way.

    .32 caliber rifle

A .32 flint lock is very economical to shoot. Just be sure to use real black powder for best ignition. Some say the small bores tend to foul more but that has not been the case for me. I have percussion and flint rifles in .32 along with a pistol and have not experienced fouling any more than...

    Bore light

I feel that those bore lights are a waste of money. I either use a thrill fishing bobber light or a small round mirror (at hobby shop) that I glue to a section of dowel. Put it down the barrel and shine my mini mag light on the mirror to see the bore. I use these items when shopping for used...

    .32

The shot was taken with my Kevin Blivens North Carolina .32 Flint lock. I was able to see the squirrel because there was snow on the ground and on the rock the squirrel was sitting on. As I said in my earlier post, it was pure luck and I'm sure I could never do it again. To this day I don't...

    Casting .310 Round Balls............

I find the spru cutter on the Lee molds does a good job of slicing the sprue off close to the surface of the ball.

    .32

I once shot a squirrel at a measured 65 yards. It was pure luck. I was rested against the trunk of a tree and the squirrel was sitting on a rock. I raised the front sight up so that the base of the sight was centered in the rear notch, set the trigger and squeezed. Wasn't sure i even came...

    Lock Maintenance.............

I remove my flint locks after every shooting session. I give the lock a good dose of Carb Cleaner, then blow the lock dry with my air compressor, then lightly lube the moving parts with 3 in 1 oil in the warmer months, and graphite in the colder months. Twice a year or so, I will place the...

    Educate me on Petersoli please

I have a maple Rocky Mtn Hawken in .54, and think it is probably the closest to a Hawken you will get in a production gun. My only unfavorable comment is the plumb brown finish on the barrel, I would have preferred a dark chocolate brown. Mine is a good round ball shooter with the 1:65 twist...

BEST CALIBER TO HUNT DEER W/ FLINTLOCK RIFLE

This is the .58 I use. The deer seem to drop in their tracks when hit properly. No blood trailing for me, I'm getting too old for that.

BEST CALIBER TO HUNT DEER W/ FLINTLOCK RIFLE

As previously said, all three calibers will take deer with proper shot placement. I hunt in heavy thick cover, so I prefer the .54 or .58. I lean on the .58 more cause it seems to drop deer in place and I hate blood trailing deer in the heavy laurel that I hunt in.

Advice for a new ML hunter

For hunting, I carry my pocket loading kit (see Picture) and in my pack I carry an assortment of tools for the rifle such as; screwdriver to tighten the cock, spare flints & leather, touch hole pick, patch & ball puller and cows knee.

Is there a way to postpone cleaning a ml?

I suppose you could plug the nipple or vent and pour in a water soap mix, cork the muzzle for overnight. The next day, remove the cork and dump out the soapy water, remove the nipple or vent plug and swab dry before shooting again. It might work for short term, but I have never tried it and...

    Lock care

I put the entire lock (fully assembled) in my Ultra-sonic cleaner for 30 minutes, then blow off all the liquid with my air compressor, then lube with either "Barricade" or graphite depending on the weather. In cold weather, or for hunting, I use the graphite as it does not get stiff in cold...
