    Upgrade from a Traditions Trapper

One idea on my bucket list is to get a derringer kit and make a longer barrel for it.

    Penny Knife

That second jig for sawing. I made a jig that looks sort of the same. I needed a guide for drilling a long hole lengthwise in a knife handle for a rat tail tang. I took a tube with 1/4" inside diameter and epoxied glued it to two blocks of wood. The blocks about 7" apart. I then sawed out a 7"...

    Beautiful knife. Thanks.

    Center seam knife sheath

The thong is best (in my opinion) In summer, you can run a belt such that the sheath is inside the belt and the thong holds it. In winter it is inconvenient to have a knife under a coat, etc so put on a longer thong and hang it from your neck.

    Penny Knife

I've made a couple. There is very little original information on these but I think they were fairly common. It is a friction folder and the way I did it was to have the tang a step down from the top of the blade. When you open the knife the blade swings open but the "notch" bears against a...

Is it possible to archive that site?

    Trade knives

There used to be a website, I think in was Novelle Francais, or something like that. Then a book was published with all the information BUT I can't find it any where. Wish I had bought the book.

    Rogers rangers musket photos please?

I always just assumed they used the standard Brown Bess. I doubt they would be using the enemy's (French) muskets, etc. and I never heard of them being a militia type unit using their own arms.

    .32 conicals

I've never tried the paper patched but I'm interested in its application. My thought on a 32 conical would be for coyotes since most states mandate larger calibers for deer.

    .32 conicals

I think Davy Crockett used a 36 caliber for all the bears he killed however he used dogs and the bears treed and he took a headshot at close range.

    .32 conicals

Interesting question. Has anyone used a 32 caliber conical on deer sized game and if so- how did it work?

    Haggis Day

Are we talking about dogs or haggis? The Cheyenne ate a lot of dog. It was actually puppy and thy boiled the thing about 4 hours until it was a gelatinous mess. The mountain men said only buffalo was better. And Haggis, I find it impossible to get all the proper ingredients.

How fast can BP revolvers be reloaded?

I tested this out years ago so I'm working from memory. I made small wood boxes that the combustible cartridges were encased. These were about the size of a deck of cards. I made both the mono-bloc DC Sage style and the two piece Colt style. I liked the Colt best. These wood "packets" had a...

    Point of impact shift.

I think you are needlessly worrying. I had one situation where I reloaded "fast" on a downed animal that needed another shot but over and above that, they critter either drops or takes off through scrub/brush and I wait a bit and then slowly follow up. If it is still kicking the next shot is...

    Point of impact shift.

I'm the same, just swab between shots. I hunt and in most instances only the first shot counts so if that is on- whole deal.

    Cloth shooting bag opinions

I don't know how to post photos but my bag is like the others. One large compartment. The seldom used items I roll up in ticking (used for patches) and that goes in the bottom of the bag-like a shelf and then the frequently used items on top.

    Welding

I thought the tig/mig was for rather thin stock, so oxy Acetylene I guess. I'd set the thing up for a tight fit on top- the visible area and the weld material mostly on the bottom. You might get a local weldor to do it for a few bucks if you get everything set up correctly.

    Great Minn/Wi Book

"The Indian Wars" by Duane R. Lund. This book covers the earliest days (1600's) up to about the Civil War. A whole chapter on La Verendrye. French pathfinders, then the various NDN tribes and battles. All in the Northern Boundary (lake of The Woods) and some of Wisconsin.
