    I’m at a loss

The Mag Spark screws out and you screw in a new nipple, you will have to figure out what size threads are in the drum.

    Pressure canned venison

We butchered 20 hogs a year and would pressure cook hog loins this way, back in the 60s and early 70s. I started pressure canning deer sometime in the 90s and my brothers and sisters loved it. You can heat up and have over rice or with mashed potatoes, put in a hot dog bun with your favorite BBQ...

    The new Kibler fowler

Sure...It is the 16 gauge, as I have 3 rifles, a .40 and 2-.54s. Hoping to try it on squirrels after deer season and then turkeys in the Spring. I ordered in walnut and used Jim Chambers oil finish, no stain on the stock, no finish on the brass or steel parts, plan to let them age on their own.

    The new Kibler fowler

I put together a Woodsrunner last year and a Fowler this year, I would say the Fowler is easier. Now, I added some carving to the Woodsrunner, but it also has a nosecap as well as a patchbox and you have to add the sights and adjust them, so there is less to do to a Fowler. Also, I left the...

Patching over your powder charge …. then patching your ball

Yes I have done it, it helps prevent the patch around the ball.

Best way to get rifle up in deer stand?

I put a leather shotgun sling on mine, attach pull rope to the middle of the sling and pull it up. I bring the gun up level with the ground so the muzzle isn't pointing at me. I also have a leather flint stall on the frizzen, no powder in the pan and hammer down.

    CLOSED Kibler Fowler

Just a note, Jim recommends getting the 20 gauge if you are going to shoot a round ball..The barrel is thicker for the higher pressures. Good luck.

    Barrel twist for deer hunting

Exactly, Sam & Jake didn't use button rifling, no need too, they were still shooting round balls in the 1840s... :) That is why it is hard to compare a T/C barrel to a properly made round ball barrel.

    Building my first Kibler.

The stock was stained with Laurel Mountain's Honey Maple. Then sealed with Peramalyn. I browned the barrel with Laurel Mountain Browning Solution. I've used that since the '70s.

    Virginia smooth rifle

That was Stewart, his brother in law, he went missing on Boone's first trip to Kentucky. Stewart and Boone had split from their main party, which included Finley, who originally told Boone about Kentucky. There were several that made that trip and they split up to trap beavers and kill deer for...

    Barrel twist for deer hunting

.54 caliber, patched round ball, 80grs FFF black powder and a 1-72 twist will do all that needs doing. I do prefer deep, cut rifling over shallow, button rifling for a patched round ball.

54 Cal buffalo hunt accuracy issues

Any discussion of accuracy with a patched round ball starts with how the patches look after you shoot them. They should look like you could reuse them. I like to cut a strip of patching, maybe 12-15 inches long, start it down the barrel about 4-5 inches and pull it back out. Then look at the...

    What is the best book?

Couple of places to help you understand locks and how to build a trigger to help with trigger pull. Go to YouTube, Jim Kibler has a video on taking his locks apart, there may be another on yours, but his is worth watching as well. Get Foxfire 5, Hershel House explains triggers. You can also find...

    Powder Horn

Measure, ball block, horn and pouch. I attach my ball block and measure on a leather thong that is attached to my strap, they go in my shot pouch for easy access.

    Powder Horn filling?

I attach a small, screw in funnel to my older Goex cans and pour into the spout. Not sure when I got this funnel, in the '70s I believe. :)
