    Grease hole

Idea...Fill it half full of your favorite lube, then add several greased patches on top, that way, you can easily access patches that are already lubed...If the top one gets too dirty for your liking, toss it....

    Pondering a flintlock. Educate me.

Get a SMR .40...Here is why...In 1977, I bought a Bob Watts flintlock in .45, the stock is similar to the SMR, it had a pretty good kick to it with hunting loads (I know you don't hunt, but that may change)...In 1988, I made a .54 and found it works better for deer... The SMR has a set trigger...

    Track of the Wolf

I ordered a dozen last year, requested none with humps, two had humps anyway, emailed them, they said they didn't sort them, have to order them one at a time and request no humps.

What would make you break out your wallet?

What caused me to break out my wallet was a .45 caliber Bob Watts flintlock rifle in 1975 in Stone Mountain Georgia. I never looked back. When black bears got thick on our farms in eastern North Carolina, I built a .54 caliber myself, both of these rifles have Siler locks on them. Get yourself a...

    NEW T/C Hawkens!

Never had much need for a percussion gun. If they are $1,200, you would be much better off with a Kibler.

    kibler fowler

These were made to represent typical fowlers made in England and shipped to the Colonies. Rifles during this time period, especially Christian Springs rifles often had wire inlay so no, it was not common.

    southern gun/hog rifle question,,,,,,,,,,,

In later years they were often left in the smoke house to kill hogs before salting, smoking and processing the meat.

Smoothbore powder loads for deer hunting question

Black powder burns slower than smokeless, so it will not all burn, it becomes part of the payload. When I started back in the '70s, I thought more was better, this isn't necessary so. Have fun!!

    lubing patches

I use SnoSeal for lube, there are 767,987 different lubes out there. Mixtures of beeswax, castor oil, Murphy's oil soap, mink oil, etc. Sounds like you are using a liquid. Switch lubes..

    Ramrod End for Fowler

So, what are you guys doing with the end of the ramrod that has no tip (the barrel end)? I'm wondering about adding a threaded tip or flare or maybe just adding grooves for tow...I need something to grab on to, to help pull it out when reloading. On the rifles I build, I add a threaded ramrod...

    Considering a .40 caliber

Sorry, your original post mentioned accuracy as in one inch groups or better, that is about the size of a squirrel head. If you are not capable of doing that with a rifle, why have one for target shooting?? Get a Kibler fowler and blast away... ;)
