Lapping the Barrel with JB bore Paste

Waksupi That is why I went with bore paste . I figured it might do all the polishing I need and with minimal wear since it is designed for guns. Having read all the responses I'm thinking I may give it 50 more strokes. I only did 50.

Lapping the Barrel with JB bore Paste

Necchi The gun was originally cleaned when new with Carb Cleaner followed by soap and water. When I load a clean bore the ball and patch go right in . I use a short starter but it isn't necessary . If I load a second shot without swabbing the ball and patch will start ok but I will have to...

Lapping the Barrel with JB bore Paste

The Mink Oil I am using is from TOW so it should be fine for my needs

Lapping the Barrel with JB bore Paste

I should also mention I am using Graff fffg powder CCI and Rem 11 caps. Duelist54 in his video suggests that it is micro-burs causing the problem. My gun is acting just like his. I figured I couldn't hurt anything with the JB so it was worth a try. If that doesn't work I'm going to give it the...

Lapping the Barrel with JB bore Paste

I have a 54 cal gun. I am using .530 Hornaday balls and I have tried .015" and .018" patches with the same results. I am using mink oil to lubricate the patches and they are thoroughly wetted out. The gun is very accurate. Also the patches look fine when I recover them.

Lapping the Barrel with JB bore Paste

Well I have about 75 rounds through the Lyman GPR and I still cannot load more than one round without swabbing the bore with some solvent . I thought by now I would be seeing some improvement. I watched the polishing video with Scotch Brite pads and that seemed easy enough . However I didn't...

Going to a Rendezvous with the Grandson and the GPR TODAY!!!!

Well the Grandson who is 7 had a great time. I am not associated with the group who had the rendezvous (yet) but as guest we were welcomed by all. We went down to the range first and one of the guys showed my grandson how a muzzle loader was loaded and let him shoot it. At that point the...

Patch lube for round ball shooting..........Lawdy.

I have been shooting a Lyman GPR -54 for about 5 years . I have used prelubed Bore Butter Patches , Wonderlube patches , and now I am using patches I lube with TOW mink oil. All work about the same and certainly good enough for my shooting needs . I am going to try Crisco, Olive Oil, peanut oil...

    Bummer 10-Year-Old Remington Caps Today

I have some CVA caps that look like they were made by CCI . I purchased these in the 90's and they still work good. I have one more can but I have shot about a hundred in the last 12 months with no failures . I also have a can of Remington's about the same vintage and have shot 20 if them...

    New Pietta 1851 Colt Navy

Frontstuffer070 - I haven't shot it but it seems to function just fine and everything lines up. I would say it is on par with my old 1858 Rem Army (Pietta) that I have had since the 90's

    Pietta Disappointment

Fourbore I have the gun you describe above but mine was built about 20 years ago. Mechanically and esthetically my gun has been pretty good. The lug that holds the loading lever was soldered onto the barrel and fell off at about 100 rounds . This has been frustrating but I recently bought a lug...

    New Pietta 1851 Colt Navy

One of my dearest buddies sent me a Brand Spanking New Pietta 1851 Colt Navy for Christmas . Of course it is a beautiful gun but more importantly we have helped each other through thick and thin for the last 25 years . There is no finer man and I am blessed to have him in my life .
