    54 Rifled or Smooth Bore?

I like your idea so much, that I sent a message to Jim Kibler and asked him that very same question. :ThankYou: I'll let you know what he says in his reply. 🤔

    54 rifled or smooth bore?

I used to own a TC Pennsylvania Hunter, which was a PRB rifle and it had a 1:66 twist. I killed 3 deer and several groundhogs with it, but never past 50 yards. However, it shot 1 1/2" groups at 50 yards, all day long and I never complained.

    54 Rifled or Smooth Bore?

I appreciate the informative replies, gentlemen! 💯 Purchasing a rifled barrel sounds like my best option. I'm not ordering the Kibler kit until later this month, so I still have some time to look around for a different rifle in a smooth bore. 👍 Perhaps I'll pick up a smooth bore later...

    54 Rifled or Smooth Bore?

I'm about to build my first rifle, a Kibler Colonial kit and I've narrowed it down to a 54 caliber. I had previously considered 50 vs. 54. Now, I'm considering the differences between a rifled bore and a smooth bore. 🤔 I'll be using this rifle for deer hunting, possible or occasional groundhogs...

    54 rifled or smooth bore?

Deleted: Meant to be posted in the Flintlock Section.

Anyone hunting with a Musket or similar Civil War rifle?

Rock Home Isle, You're about twice as far north from Denver, as my twin granddaughters are south of Denver, as they live in Colorado Springs. :) Sounds like you have a decent collection of smoke poles to get the job done, no matter what the game. After I make this next purchase, I may...

    What happened to Lyman Muzzleloaders?

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen! :) I had guessed as much, but wanted to check with others to make sure. I've pretty much decided to buy a Pedersoli rifle. Possibly the Blue Ridge Rifle, unless I find a Kentucky Rifle at a reasonable price. I was at a Cabelas today and seen a Pennsylvania...

Anyone hunting with a Musket or similar Civil War rifle?

I'm about to purchase a traditional muzzleloader, for hunting deer and general "quail walk" type events. 🤔 I started out considering the typical Southern Mountain rifle and/or Kentucky/Pennsylvania rifles. There are an endless amount of options out there to suit anyone, which is a good thing...

Shopping for a finished Flintlock Rifle

deerstalkert, If you're making that comparison, I'd walk away before I get in too deep. 🤣 If it has tits or tires, you're gonna have problems with it. True! I'd like to think muzzleloaders are waaay less complicated. 🤔

Shopping for a finished Flintlock Rifle

RanchRoper, I may end up with one of the Pedersoli rifles. I'm not fond of the idea of purchasing something "sight unseen", but being production rifles, I'm sure they're built to "fit most". I've done my share of research on these rifles and I'm not finding any serious issues, as far as weapon...

Shopping for a finished Flintlock Rifle

Here's another issue... 🤔 Bass Pro Shops/Cabelas has both the Pedersoli Kentucky and Blue Ridge rifles in stock....but they're both flintlocks. I would like to think a brand new flintlock rifle would not have any issues, but I'm currently at "2 strikes" with flintlocks. So, I'm a...

Shopping for a finished Flintlock Rifle

I tried picking it and that didn't work either, but I appreciate your encouragement. :) Oddly enough, what did work every time, was filling the pan with 4F powder, then tilting the rifle, while bumping the stock to get the powder to fall into the flash hole...2x, then heaping the powder into a...

Shopping for a finished Flintlock Rifle

Well, I shot this rifle and as it turns out the flintlock pan and flash hole don't match up correctly. It takes 4 or 5 times of priming the pan and firing it to get it to fire the charge. The flint throws plenty of sparks, the pan charge flashes very well and 4F is what I'm using. I...

    What happened to Lyman Muzzleloaders?

I can't find Lyman muzzleloaders on the Lyman website. Very few Lyman MLs can be found at any website, period. However, I have noticed that on the Davide Pedersoli website, they offer Lyman MLs as a "signature series", but at an increased price. There are a couple of other websites...

Shopping for a finished Flintlock Rifle

deerstalkert, I took your advice. :ThankYou: All I need now, is all the accessories. Time to start shopping.

Shopping for a finished Flintlock Rifle

I appreciate the informational replies, gentlemen! Eric Krewson, My first muzzleloader was a TC Hawken, but I never shot round balls out of it. Conical bullets seemed to produce good accuracy with 2F. My second muzzleloader was the TC Penn. Hunter, which was intended for round balls and...

Shopping for a finished Flintlock Rifle

It appears that anyone can purchase an inline and at any location. However, finding a traditional full stock long rifle in a flintlock is entirely another matter. I've looked at the Pedersoli rifles, but all of them appear to be a 1:48 twist. A slower twist would be preferred for...

    Hatfield 50 Caliber Flintlock

denster, Yes, you did and I hope to be there next week for the shoot. It's been several years since I've been to that club and the last time I had a T/C Pennsylvania Hunter. One other time I was there with Greg Gonder and Kim Best, shooting Greg's half-stock 32 caliber. Bowhunter57

    Hatfield 50 Caliber Flintlock

After talking with the fine folks at The Log Cabin Shop, in Lodi, Ohio, I decided to leave the rifle building to someone else. 🙂 There's too much room for error with the wood and/or metal parts, starting from scratch. I could very easily end up with a $900 rifle looking like a $400 rifle...

    Pedersoli Blue Ridge flintlock rifle?

Well... What a huge change a couple of days can make. 😎 I visited The Log Cabin Shop, in Lodi, Ohio and found some very interesting information from some very experienced rifle builders. I started adding up the cost of building a rifle from their inventory and was pleasantly surprised at the...
