New Colt 1851 Navy C series

As I understand it so far, I can keep all my firearms, I can take them to my club and shoot them. I can’t buy any restricted firearms (pistols). I can’t sell them, give them away or leave them to my descendants. The only pistols I can acquire, sell, trade, give away or leave to my descendants...

New Colt 1851 Navy C series

I got the exact same gun at a gun show in Ontario in May 2018 for $550 CDN. That would have been $402 USD at the exchange rate of .732 in 2018. It is a beauty. Sold my Pietta.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Started removing sprues and polishing metal on the Queen Anne pistol kit from Blackley and Son. First gun build from kit although I finished a Lancaster rifle a friend had built by doing the final shaping, sanding, carving, browning, staining and oiling. Not confident with drilling, tapping...

    I have a soft frizzen!

Cherry Red was removed from the market for health reasons. I bought mine from Track before that happened. I used it on Tuesday for the first time. Worked great. Track now sells Tru-Spark. I put the link above a couple of posts.

    I have a soft frizzen!

https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/366/1/TRU-SPARK-4 I hardened a frizzen for the first time on Tuesday. I used a propane torch to get it to cherry red not having an acetylene torch. It got there in a couple of minutes. Not hard to do and worked. The link above will lead...

    rogers and spencer question.

I got this engraved stainless Euroarms Rogers and Spencer at an online auction in August and it was finally allowed to be delivered by the RCMP in February. Great gun. I hadn’t heard of the magnet test. The gun is magnetic. Just tested it. I was concerned about the long wait to get my hands on...

    Miquelet lock rifle and pistol

Here is a quick update. Case hardened the frizzen face. It now sparks. Don’t have an acetylene torch so did it with a propane. Took longer, but came up to cherry red fairly quickly. Held the cherry red compound on the frizzen face at, yes, cherry red for about 2 1/2 minutes before quenching in...

    Deluxe Rogers, Spencer

Auction prices for percussion caps in Canada have been ridiculous. I haven’t bought any since the pandemic. Had a pretty good store of Remington 10s for pistols and CCI 11s for the rifles and enough ff and fff Goex and Swiss to probably last me. I think from a friend that the stores are starting...

    Deluxe Rogers, Spencer

Couldn’t pass it up. Bought at auction in August and got permission to receive it in February. Made the bison leather holster the next day.

    Miquelet lock rifle and pistol

Received the pistol yesterday disassembled and put it together to see how it functioned - examined the bore and worked on some minor scale. The barrel does have a breech plug, but the inside shows a thin long straight seam. I’ll try to take a picture when I take it apart again. The gun lock came...

Yes, the workmanship is top notch. I’m sure you will figure out what’s going on with the half cock notch. Beautiful polished back action lock.

Btw. Those are fine looking pistols. Where did the barrels come from? What caliber? Do you shoot them?

    Miquelet lock rifle and pistol

Wow. Thanks again Rick. Good/bad to know. Really appreciate your information and cautions. I’ll give it a really good inspection. That’s the problem with online auctions. There are always surprises - usually requiring repairs or as you suggest setting aside from the range. btw. The auction...

    Miquelet rifle and pistol

Thanks Rick. Yes, TRS was the only place I could find kits for a Spanish miquelet lock, but the barrels were in 62 caliber whereas my gun is 54. I agree that someone assembled it from parts but wasn’t really sure about the lock. Thanks for the information. john

    Miquelet lock rifle and pistol

This miquelet lock pistol was purchased from an online auction in Ontario in September and I was notified by the RCMP that the transfer was approved yesterday. Yes it is taking 6 months to get approvals since the government warned and then passed the law forbidding the sale, purchase or transfer...

    Miquelet lock rifle and pistol

This is my first posting to a new thread. It will be in two parts. First is to show a rifle I bought from an online auction out of Alberta over a year ago. it was not sold as an antique which I found strange since in Canada reproduction flintlock long arms are considered antiques. The...

Thanks for the comment. The gun is engraved Strohlein & Engel In Friedberg. I did a search and found some rifles with this hammer design under that name and had my hopes that it would fit and look good. It is a smooth bore around 50 cal. The internal lock is polished like a watch.

That’s a great looking pistol. Here is antique, back action pistol I bought at auction for a good price since it had no hammer. I was surprised when I removed the hammer screw to find that the tumbler shaft was a hexagon, not a square. Luckily I found and ordered a hammer from Blackley and Sons...
