A skinner for a real deerslayer

That is a beautiful knife! Make sure that the boy trades you a penny for it so that it does not cut into your friendship. Old traditions are kind of fun to keep up.

I went to Lowes and bought a painters tarp. After I waterproof it how do I set it up? One, two or no poles? Ropes, Stakes? :hmm:

How hot do you have to get to properly anneal metal? Can you do it with just a propane torch? :hmm:

    New Blackbeard Movie

It's a very talky movie. They throw in a love story between Capt. Maynard and the Governers daughter. Lot's of blunderbusses though!

    melting lead

When I have a large amount of bulk lead to melt I use an aluminum pot about the size being discussed here and a Coleman stove. The trick is to not let the pot go empty. The first batch will take 10-15 minutes to get hot enough to melt. When it gets down to an inch or so hot lead in the pot...

    Powder question

FFFG will work just fine as a primer. FFFFG is a little faster ignition but for most purposes you won't notice the differance. Just make sure that you don't put too much in the pan when priming from you main horn. 3gr. is about all you would need.

    Reusing Cleaning Patches

Does anyone else out there reuse their cleaning patches? I use them once and put them in a ziploc bag. When the bag is full I wash them in a mesh bag. I trim the frayed edges off (usually while wathing the **** tube) and tie bundles of 25 or so with a piece a yarn so I have these bundles of...

    What size diamond shelter?

I know grommets are not PC and some people use the rock or roundball method of tying off a tarp. I was thinking of using tie strips sewn to various parts of the tarp. Has any used these type of fasteners?

looking for a cva green river knife kit

The knives at Crazy Crow look like the CVA knife that I have had for 20+ years and they are cheaper than the knife that was on Ebay.

    What size diamond shelter?

Can cotton broadcloth be found at regular fabric stores or at Wally-world? What weight should I be looking for? What about a modern waterproofing solutions? I'm thinking about a trek this summer and want to keep the weight down.

    Carson City Rondy Cannon

this video as shot at the carson city Rondezvous. One of the club members had a cannon that they shot off every half hour or so. A spectator (usually an attracive female) was selected to touch it off under supervision. Keep in mind that this was in a city park! [/img]

    Haversack/Backpack

The pictures on the link are very close to Bakers knapsack. The straps are wider at the top and look more comfortable than the straight straps on Marks bag. What would work to waterproof it? I was thinking of using leather straps for closures instead of buttons. Borrowing them from the...

    Haversack/Backpack

Has any one tried making the backpack described in Mark Baker's A Pilgrim Journey? I'm thinking of making one from scratch rather than converting mine. It looks much more practical than an over the shoulder haversack.

    Casting Temp???

I have one of the small Lee electric pots and when I'm done I always have a pile of crud next to my pot that I skimmed off my lead. I get my lead from a roofing company. It's used flashing material. First I melt it down in an old aluminum pot on my coleman stove. That's where I clean a LOT...

    New Blackbeard Movie

I just read that they are making a new Blackbeard movie with Richard Chamberland and Stacy Keach on the Hallmark Channel on June 17. I think Chamberland must be playing BB's grandfather.

    Heading out for first Rondyvous

Welcome to the fold. Don't worry about the "greenhorn" thing. Buckskinners are more than willing share what they know. Don't be surprised if you find yourself sitting around the fire tonight with a mug of "pie" and your head full of stories and advice. Enjoy!
